j30 with LS1. Will stock fuel pump deliver 58 psi?

I am working on installing a '2000 SS camero motor (LS1) in my 94 j30t and am needing to know if the stock fuel pump is capable of delivering 58 psi, which is the standard operating pressure of the LS1. Can anyone advise me here?

Also, I read in the j30 manual that the fuel system is controlled by the ecm, which supposedly, adjusts the voltage or amperage to the pump, controlling fuel pressure. Am I understanding this correctly? I am not planning on running the j30 ecm. So, can I send the fuel pump 12volts and expect it to work normally?

I appreciate any help.

An actual tech question? There's probably like, 2 people on this board that can answer you...

Anyway, cool swap. How far along are you?

People have done LS1s in z32s. In fact, I think I've seen an LS1 in every generation Z car, although I can't think of a specific Z31 off the top of my head.

So why not?

I have the engine and trans mounted, the shaft in, trans shifter linkage in. Looks like the stock j radiator hoses will work. Not sure if the j radiator itself will be enough, but given the ls1 has an aluminum block and heads, I dont think it will require what a cast setup would. I have the a/c lines ready. Just got the ls1 harness and ecu redone - removed the security and unnecessary stuff, etc. Power steering is done. I didn't mess with the rear steering system.

Not much time to work on it, but its moving along. Almost ready to hear it run. Curious if the stock fuel pump will do the job or not. Don't have any pics.

Stock TT fuel pump is good upto the 700hp range. The stock NA controller is a two stage while the TT is three. And yes you can run the fuel pump at WOT ,,straight line to pump.Even tho alot of people change to the Waldro 255 pump for hybrid engine.

No, I think a twin turbo qualifies as major.

Awesome stuff tho. Keep us posted.

Once you drop in the LS1, you won't need nitrous. Comes with enough horsepower to pull the boat. If I'm not mistaken, the '00 Camaros weigh slightly less than the J.

I was under the impression the j weighs around 4,000 lbs. Is this the case?

That would be the other infiniti pig, the Q45.

The J weighs about 3,500.

This is an awesome swap. An LS1 is a lot easier to find than a vg30tt. Parts for it are probably a lot cheaper also.

yup yup

but a LSI would take alot of Mods/Fabbing and a different transmission.

yeah it shoudl but you should also compare the flow rates of the stock pumps.

I put an electric pump on my 63 4X4 with an inline PSI adjuster. That would be the least of the challenges.

I have the GM 4l60e transmission, which is an ls1 option. As far as fabbing, I had a reverse sump oil pan built and had to work on the left manifold to go around the steering. Simpler work included motor/ trans mounts, trans shift linkage, power steering and a/c lines and the driveshaft made. Need to figure out how to wire the fuel pump and see if it will produce enough pressure.

PRESSURE is not necessarily important, its the FLOW RATE of the pump.. You can run it at whatever pressure you want and it wont damage anything, but if the pump cannot pump enough fuel then you're gonna be in trouble. Of course you need the correct pressure for the injector timing to work fine, but thats not really whats important, its easy to crank the pressure up...

For instance, most nissan pumps put out 42max PSI, you need 58 psi.. Compare the flow rate of both pumps to see if their comparable. The stock J30 has likely about a 200 liter/hour pump (same as 300ZX N/A, do your GOOGLING), so compare that to whatever the stock LS1 pump is.

Compare those numbers and make sure theyre similar and then you should have no problem running the higher pressure which is simply controlled by the fuel pressure regulator.

bypass the fuel pump controller and have it run 12v constant to the pump.install some large capacity pump and call it a day.

no, i have seen some great cars come out of texas, and all of the us.

i just have doubts when someone says they have wired up and fitted an ls1, with a/c and p/s, but has no pictures, and cant figure out how to wire up a fuel pump.

You may want to check out NICO's Hybrids sub-forum.

My guess is you'll want to swap out to a newer aftermarket pump, unless the one in the car is "new-ish".
