The radio on my J30 won't power on at all. The lights on all the buttons come on but the radio itself doesn't do a thing. I was wondering if there was any possible quick fixes to try before hunting out possible bad wiring. I've already checked all the fuses in my car.

the lights on your radio work independently from the radio itself in other words the lights on your radio gets it power from a difference source than the radio. So even if the radio is broken and wont power up the lights on the buttons will still glow. when you check your fuse make sure that you use light tester they are cheap and can be purchased at Autozone or other store of the like. I have encountered fuses that were not broken but they were still bad. To be quite honest with you your 94 has gone longer than expected, usually these Bose units start to show signs of trouble at around Ten years. I just had my Bose unit rebuilt and its working better than ever.

I checked the fuse earlier. I'm going to look for a bad wire or connector after I get home from work. However, after reading up and seeing that these radios do seem to go after awhile, I might just buy a new one.A little off topic, my J30 seems to have every common J30 problem in the book. It's a real fixer upper and it's pretty roughed up but for $1200, all it took was one sit in the drivers seat to sell me on the vehicle.

you may want to look into having your unit fixed because if you buy a used one then theres the risk of buying it on its way out as well. i would have brought an aftermarket stereo but i wanted to keep the stock look of the car. I hope the car gives you years of satisfaction, I tell everyone that compliments my car that i will never get rid of it. there is a saying about buying higher end cars "You have to pay to play" As you fix up your car you will find out that Most of Infiniti car parts are on the high side, but dont let it bum you out the car is totally worth it. If your pockets are deep then modify it with a 300ZX TT engine. and welcome to the site, tons of information here, enjoy the show.

You do have a point. The radio now matches the car very nicely. Also, since it's stock I wouldn't have to worry about different wiring or anything. I guess I'll figure out what to do later. I have more important things to get right now including tires, headlamp assembly and possibly some sort of service to make the paintjob look better.

The funny thing about my car is that even with all of the flaws and such, I've still received numerous comments about the good looks of my car. I guess that even beat up, these things look better than some vehicles made today.

I'm definitely learning about that pay to play aspect. This car is going to cost me a good several hundred before it's like new again. However, given my background (former president of a high school robotics team, major computer hobbyist), the whole fixer upper aspect just makes the car that much more fun. Besides, if it weren't for all the big flaws in my car, I wouldn't of got it for the price I did.

Well I won a headlamp assembly for the drivers side of my car on eBay. Once I get that in the car is sure to look alot better. I can look at the car from most angles and it'll be appealing but the second I get sight of that headlight with the broken lens, the car just looks more ghetto.

The power steering pressure hose sprung a leak yesterday and I can't find a cheap one anywhere. I found a junkyard about 5 miles away that has three J30s in it so I'm going to make a trip tomorrow and see if any of those cars have that part (and maybe a spare). I'm also hoping to find a working radio and running lights to go in my front bumper since the current ones are broken.

Also, sometime soon, I'm going to redo the weather stripping on the sunroof. I washed the car today and found out where the stripping was bad. Man that was a fun problem to dry out.

By the way, it's great to find some people who actually don't mind my constant talking about my car. I'm really turning off a bunch of my friends right now because I find it hard to shut up about my new leather chair on wheels. After all, not many people can say their first car came with leather seats and wood trim (well, not many people who had to save up money and buy their own car).
