I'm removing oil pan to replace the oil pump. The pan is free, but I can't manipulate it out. I've got the engine up as high as can go, but something is preventing the pan from coming forward enough for the rear to clear its protrusion into the bell housing.

The shop manual says that after breaking the pan free from the sealant, remove the "oil screen", then remove the pan. I can't tell from the picture what/where this oil screen is. Any clues?

BTW, I didn't see why the power steering pump or the stabilizer bar had to be removed, so I didn't. They don't appear to be in the way of anything.

Last step, and I'm stuck.

Jon.

Apparently the "oil screen" is the pickup tube. That's off. Still not enough clearance to get the pan out. But I can get to the pump... see separate post.js.

Hey Jons....I seem to have run into the same problem...so now I am stuck with a day down time tryin to figure this out....which I dont understand the engineering of how this came out to be a problem in the first place. I turned to my favorite place which is Autozone.com for info on how to remove the oil pan. Its directions are exactly what I already assumed and that is to remove the whole front cross member....I thought the same as you to raising the engine up but Im tryin to figure out which is more work...but I apreciate that you have attempted and now have given me the info that it wont work so I guess its the removal of the front cross member....and dont feel bad that no one answeres you cuz I came down with the same problem.

Thanks for corroborating my experience.FWIW, here's picture of how I supported the engine. The chains over the cross beam grab the engine with hooks. Each chain has a turnbuckle. The 2 side beams extend forward and are used to lever-up the engine -- pull up, slide some wooden blocks underneath. I also put a jack under the bell housing for more support.

In my case I dont' really NEED to get the pan all the way off. My goal was to get the oil pump out, which I did - but that's another thread. It would make cleaning it up a lot easier, but not worth removing the front suspension.
