Awaiting my deluxe strut kit from Infiniti of Scottsdale. I just removed the gland nut from one of my struts so i could remove the cartridge, about a pint of oil spilled out of the strut housing. I had it clamped to my bench horizontally. The FSM shows it clamped vertically with no mention of oil.

Is this oil suppose to be in there or did the cartridge leak?If the oil in the strut housing is normal what type and quantity of oilshould go back in.

I use Mobile 1 synthetic ATF due to its excellent heat transfer ability and anti-foaming characteristic

I might not get to it for a few weeks but I will do that, The insert I pulled out Saturday was from car at the local U Pull it, I like to practice first I did a timing belt well all of the motions on a wreck last year, made the real job easier plus I kept all the small parts just in case.

I brought home all 4 struts, fronts complete with calipers and rotors for $42.00 last week for practice. They had a $10.00 per strut sale and 2 to get in.looking at it it might be possible to replace the front insert in the car if the spring will compress enough to get the upper seat out. then bring the insert straight up into the engine compartment. Cant really tell on the units I have out. I will attempt it that way first.
