Searched and did not find remarks on this last version of the 12-027c ITB for the 7 speed, so I thought I would put up a quick note.

Had this done at my 30k service two months ago, and after teaching it how my foot works again, I really like it. It took away the really jarring, harsh downshifts, but it's still fairly aggressive with downshifting, and seems to do the rev matching a bit better. I never had the complaint of really severe "bog down" type lag on sudden off-throttle acceleration, but it does seem to respond more aggressively in that situation as well. According to the bulletin, it removes the rev matching behavior entirely from D mode, but I never use that, anyway, so I can't confirm.

Glad you like it. I don't know why they would have rev matching working with D mode anyway as that's supposed to be sport-mode initiated....or so I thought.

For those wanting to see this TSB it's on the G37 site....http://infinitig37.com/Infiniti-G37-Tec ... itins.html

Yes, you'd have expected rev-matching to be there only in sport mode to start with. I guess that finally dawned on them.

Just like you would expect turning off VDC would fire the nanny?

I am glad to see that it worked for you.

I have seen many complaints of the bogging concern here. The FX seems to exhibit the most bogging concern of all the 7 speed equipped vehicles I typically see. The Gs do some funny things with rev matching at most inappropriate times.

I do not much care for the overall function of the 7 speed under 40mph in suburban driving conditions but that update does really make what (to some) can be unusable shift logic a lot easier to tolerate.

Semi related side topic.
My work neighbor and I were having a discussion yesterday about cvts. He was trashing them hard, trying to sell me stories about the four speed he once had in an old Z that would get the better economy in newer cars. We both own '12 G coupes now. The internet is full of cvt based complaints and many people will not buy consider a vehicle with one. While I returned with the fact that our cars do not shift well under 40 whereas a cvt will hold the rpms at an ideal range throughout the area the 7 speeds struggle through. In the next generation they will find a compromise.
Thoughts?

I see a lot of complaints about the non-sporty performance of the non-sport mode of the 7at, and I just discount those to zero: those people are usually complaining about the as-designed operation of the thing. But your remarks about the FX are interesting.

I've had a prejudice against CVTs in general based on remarks in publications like Motor Trend and the fact that Subaru abandoned my needs by putting a CVT in the Legacy and ceasing to build Legacy GTs with any type of AT (this is why I drive a G now). But to be fair, I have to say that the only CVT I've driven was in an Outback loaner, and it was unobjectionable. Apparently Subaru killed the Legacy GT by going manual only: a year later it ceased to exist.

I'd like to see a manufacturer have enough confidence in their CVT to put it in a relatively high-powered performance coupe or sedan. It's hard for us performance oriented drivers to develop valid opinions about them without any of them being put into the kinds of vehicles we would choose.

The CVT in the Maxima seems to work fairly well for the most part.
All though in full disclosure I do not work on them on a daily basis,or at all.
I have driven a few of the newer ones and with the peppy 3.5 the move out quite quickly.
I think in a few years the technology will be there to make a proper. I was with Nissan in 03 when the Murano first came out, that device was a work in progress, now they have a much smaller, lighter more reliable device. It may not be perfect but they seem to stand behind it enough to the point I would consider one in my next personal vehicle.
