Have an 89 240 with a ka24de bought it running. A week ago I was driving home from doing my military weekend I stopped at the gas station on base put 15 dollars of unleaded fuel in it I make it right off base and it sputters and dies takes me alittle while to get it running again but finally it starts and runs but still can't take it over 2000rpms I've checked my ignition fuel spark compression map sensor fuel pump spark plugs ignition coil every thing is reading fine but it still won't stay running it turns over but won't start.

check the ecu for codes, its not hard to do. look for the FSM (factory service manual) you can get it on this site or google for it. you will need the one for the s13 91-94. once you check the codes we should be able to help more, even if there are none.

check your grounds for the harness on the motor...one on the front left side of the head usually bolted to a intake stud or bolt...and the other one is on the back of the head on the drivers side close to the firewall..i had one come loose and it took me a while of looking and i tightend it up (12mm) and it fired right up

now when u say u cant take it over 2000 rpm i assume its cranking but then when i re-read your first post it says it will turn over but but not fire at the end...just curious cause a mass air flow sensor loose or bad will let it crank but only rev to 2-2.5 or something like that in limp mode...try that site for all kinds of electrical trouble shooting, i found some of it helful

check the gas, make sure its not diesel. then you say you checked the maf, tps, compression, fuel pump...what were the readings, how did you test them.

haha, not surprised. my "shot in the dark because i cant really say i know" is fuel problem, bad filter or pump. hard start issue along with sputtering and no codes, i say low fuel pressure or not enough fuel at high rpm. do you have an inline gauge? what is your fuel pressure, how old is the pump/filter?

It might just be bad gas. I doubt it, but it's worth checking into. Something similar happened to me, and It turned out just to be bad gas. (idk how, but yeah.) lol

if you got bad gas just drain it and refill it. dont run that crap through your motor. remove the line before the filter and jump the fuel pump relay. that new pump will make short work out of 3 gallons of gas. then just add 2 gallons back, enough to dilute any that was left in the tank.

eather way. an bad gas most the time is just a bit of water cause the gas staion buys cheap fuel like casey's or the tank the ground leaks a bit over time. an water will clog the fliter up an the bit that gets thro will cause a small missfire. heat will not hurt the motor, it will dry up the water. but eather way will work the way Moso said will work the fastest, but dont jump the wrong wire or u could burn up some stuff in your car such as ecu or fuse box idk, just make sure u have the right wire there are like four of them two for fuel gauge an two for pump. but what i would do frist is try geting some in a cup an light it on fire see how it burns bad gas dont burn very well most times a car will run on crapy gas just run real crapy. so the gas would have to b prity bad, an u said u changed both filters so it would have realy bad gas idk, let us know how it gose there is enouf people on this site i am sure someone has had this happen befor lol

Fuel is good picked car up from mechanic he said it was fixed all he did was pull the ecu for a couple min then plug it back in and he said it ran fine so I got half way home same issue car started to sputter and died so I got no idea time to drop it off at an actual mechanic shop...anyone got any ideas before I do it? Like he said he removed the ecu from the car then it ran possibly ecu?
