Is this normal?

So I'm looking for a little information on transmissions for my 2001 QX4. I've only had it for a couple months and have noticed how rough the shifts are for the 5 speed auto transmission. During stop and go traffic, it's next to impossible to get off the line smoothly without all the passengers jerking their heads. Its slightly less noticeable with the upper gear shifts, by that i mean 2 to 3, 3 to 4 etc..... Do you guys feel this too??

And something else bugging the shiznits outta me is on the highway. Cruising with the foot on the pedal at 60 mph, everything is cool. Take the foot off, and the transmission automatically takes the car out of gear and into neutral. Apply the gas again and the engine needs to jump to about 2000 rpms to catch up to the transmission. That causes a head jerk again.

i've got another car and the transmission doesn't behave like the QX4?

First, the Qx4 2001 - 2003 do not have 5 speed autos. We have 4 speed autos. The Qx4 does have a great deal of highway power so yes it does jerk a little. I have been able to jerk heads at even 70-80 on the highway. If you are getting a really bad jerking movement, then i would take it to the dealer and get your transmission looked at. It's probably time for a transmission flush and lube.

ya scared me there for a min when he said 5 speed b/c i know my 01 pathy is a 4 speed in it.......
