I have a 1986 Z31 VG30ET with digital dash. I was wondering if I can adjust it and by how much before I am running lean?

^This. And you will need an intercooler long before you max out the injectors and run lean. Read.http://redz31.net/

I know about boost controllers I just wondered if there was a way to do it without mods, or maybe even a DIY Boost Controller?

and thanks Perrenial Badass that website was very informative.

You can build a MBC for like $10 worth of parts from Home Depot, but if you can't go there and figure it out for yourself then it would probably be wise to just spend the $40 for an aftermarket unit. I have a stock wastegate modified so I can adjust the boost.

But to answer your question, no there isn't really a smart/safe way to modify the boost without... well, modifying.
