went to start my car yesterday, fired right up then proceeded to die. i immediatly noticed that my SAFC/RSM were not working. checked the ECU fuse under the hood and it was blown. got a replacment and replaced. car still won't start, SAFC and RSM still dead. so i do some detective work with my multimeter and find out that on the ECU side of the harness, that i get continuity if i attach the power (pin 49 IIRC, same that SAFC and RSM get power from, as well as the ECU) to a ground. so my ecu is grounding out there..but how? if i disconnect the ECU from the harness its not grounded out anymore. is my ECU dead/fried?

update!

i did some more searching with my trusty DMM. and found that the black/white ECU power supply wire has grounded out somewhere. i cannot for the life of me find it. does anyone have any tips on finding shorts?

could be..

if it is I'd be willing to pay ya like $10-20 or so + s/h to get it, I'd like to have an already dead ecu to play around with various things (rather than risking killing one).

Well, obviously there is a short if you have power and ground getting continuity, there are diodes in the system to prevent that sort of thing from happening. Try another ECU and try it. You could always resell it if you are wrong.

How to find a short: Remove the entire harnes. Undo all of the tape. Start looking for breaks in the sheilding on the wires. Sorry!
