The 240sx hatch back I'm planning on getting will be test driven today by my dad(I'd drive it but :rolleyes he says he can detect problems down to the wire). Thing is, I let my friends check it out for me on their own and they said that the guy selling it is asking $1,500 because it doesn't have rear seats and worst of all, because the crank is messed up. You guys might think I'm crazy but i think the car is worth it. Let me explain why...When we first saw the car i was thinking the asking price would be 2000 bucks so i told my dad and he said that he'd talk them down to 1900 or 1800.When we heard it was selling for 1500 we were of course overwhelmed. The problem though is that i never told my dad what my friends said about the crankshaft. Now....heres where the whole morals and ethics thing comes into play. Should I tell him about the crank and then lean him towards still getting the car by telling him, "Dad, those KA motors are 400-500 bucks at our local junkyard and we were going to cough up 2000 for the 240 in the first place so paying 400 for a newer KA motor with less miles on it will still bring the total of the car to 1900, still under 2000". Or should I keep my mouth shut, hope the seller doesn't say anything and pray that my dad doesn't find anything wrong with it. Or... Just look for another 240 priced considerably higher but in good condition.
Will the messed up crank bring iminent problems? Will it hold it's own until we save up for a new KA? How will the car feel when driven with the messed up crank?
Any input would be great. Thanks
