iPhone 5/5S with 2008/2009 Infiniti (EX35, G35, etc)

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Mark, (and others),

Thanks for the great information and photos! Amazing! Mego-kudos! I set up my '08 G35x exactly as Mark described above and like him, I am finding all the functions of my iPhone 5S work *almost* perfectly.

I am having one intermittent problem however, and it is a weird one. My podcast menu is sometimes messed up. Using the Infiniti's controls I select Podcasts and it displays a list of all of my podcasts. When I select a podcast name, it displays the episodes from the next podcast in the list. Like I select Macbreak Weekly and it shows the episodes of This Week in Photo.

This is random, not happening every time I get in the car. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? Note that I can select directly from the iPhone Podcast app without any problem, but I'd rather use the Infiniti controls for all my audio, at least as much as possible.

I have my Infiniti m35x 2009 working (Audio & Charge) with iPhone 6s Plus as follows.

Stock Infiniti to 30 pin cable ---> Scosche Passport -----> OEM Apple Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter (MD823AM/A) -----> Cable Jive Lightning Extension Adapter.

The extension adapter allow for all the clunky adapter to remain in the console and all that is sitting out it is a clean lightning cable.

My only problem now is trying to figure out how to get the plastic cover that covers up the seat hex bolts for the seat rail, so I can mount my Arkon Smartphone Seat Rail Mount.

Any tips?

Just need to think everyone who posted their set up here. I used this forum and I think even this thread to find the charge adapter and to realize that I needed that Apple lightning adapter without the cable, because I ran into that problem too with the adapter with the small cable. But since then, I’ve been using those adapters with the tiny original Infiniti cable, so the phone sits by the cupholders and doesn’t really let me see directions and such. I’ve been dying for a mount and a longer cable. I’ve tried a few extension cables that didn’t work, and I didn’t think I could find a mount that would work for me because I wasn’t willing to use adhesive and because the air vents were in an unconventional location. I tried the exact set up listed above and everything is perfect and I could not be happier. Thank you so much.

I was going to make a new thread about my iPod ecp, then this thread popped up so I suppose I'll put it here.

Honestly, Infiniti choosing a CF slot for the 08 EX35 is a huge fail. I love the car, but some of Infiniti’s choice are puzzling.

I’m an Android user, I wanted a 2010 so I could have BT audio streaming. My 08 was too good of a deal to pass, so now I’m looking for work arounds. My gf had an old iPod laying around, and my car has all the cables so I decided to give it a shot. Fought with iTunes, got my library on the iPod and it works in my car. The problem I’m running into is when I turn the car on, often is says no iPod detected, then after a moment, it connects. The frustration is it then just sits at the initial screen, doesn’t remember what playlist/song I was listening to, so I have to start all over. A lot of my listening is to A State of Trance, a 2 hr podcast I rip from YouTube. The behavior by the iPod has made it un-listenable because it doesn’t remember where I left off.

Is there a way to avoid this? I’ve tried to see if having it off for longer or shorter periods affects it, but it seems to be random. I anticipate that the iPod Video should have an auto shut off. I thought maybe it was just staying on and killing the battery. So I tried shutting it off manually so the battery would be fine. Next time I started it, it didn’t detect it for 5-10 seconds and then just displayed the main menu.

Alternatively, I’ve been looking for a Bluetooth dongle, not ideal but hoping it will do what I want. I came across the Kinivo BTC450 which has good reviews. Their CS team said I can have the phone BT routed through the car, and audio through the dongle and solve my problem. Just waiting to hear back to find out if my phone can be connected to 3 devices at once, including my smart watch.

If someone could shed some light on the iPod issue though, that would make life easy.

Thanks!

No help with that -- sometimes it remembers, sometimes it doesn't. Honestly, the system is so weird. If set to ipod/iphone, no controls work unless you either turn audio off, switch input or plug in device. CF, hard drive, *video inputs* -- but no simple headphone/USB input to attach basically anything. I'm happy it has the CD player, because there's really nowhere else to mount a phone. The fact that the cable is detachable but proprietary and never updated is super-frustrating. Also -- no bluetooth downloading of contacts from iPhones. Per my post above, I've been able to find enough workarounds to keep my phone charging and playing music, but audio-wise, they clearly did not try to future proof this car at all. Sure, it is now 9-10 years old, but these problems started arising YEARS ago. I think USB inputs didn't become popular until later, but headphone inputs were definitely a thing back then.

Just get an RCA (red and white) to 3/5mm converter, that's what I have and it works fine. I ordered the Bluetooth adapter I was looking at yesterday, should be in this week. Hopefully that satisfies my streaming needs.
