Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I do have a lot of questions about our cars but so far I've found most of the answers by searching here in the Nico forums and on the web. I'm sure something will come up that I can't find and when it does, hopefully, I won't sound like a newb.
albert_ey, I shopped at 3 different Nissan dealerships before I made the commitment and I did a lot of research on the Z. The lot that I finally settled on had a large selection and they had marked down a lot of their 08’s to get them off the lot. I don’t remember the exact amount but it was less than what edmunds.com said I should be paying for it so I was happy.
I hope this isn’t a premonition of things to come for this car but it had 2 bad rims when I took possession. Before I got it home from the lot the tire pressure light came on. I checked the pressure of all 4 tires and they were spot on at 35psi. I took it back to the dealership 2 times to have it reset. Each time it would come back on within 5 miles from the dealership. On the 3rd trip they decided one rim was bad and gave me a new one. The light hasn’t come on since.
I didn’t notice the problem with the other rim until after owning the car for about 3 weeks. I was detailing it for the first time when I noticed that one rim was a duller color than the other 3 and it wasn’t smooth to the touch like the others. It was rough. I thought I had picked up some road crud but there was nothing on the tire or on the car around the wheel well. Soapy water and a rag worked well on the other 3 rims but this one wouldn’t come clean and it was still rough to the touch. The next day I picked up some Mothers wheel cleaner and wheel polish. When I used the cleaner on the dirty rim it took the silver coating off to reveal a smooth black finish underneath. I did about a 2 inch circle before I called the dealership. So, once again, I took the car back to the dealership. The guy in the service department instantly knew what was wrong. The rim had been painted but was never clear coated. That’s why it felt rough and the solvent took off the paint. Anyway, I got a 2nd new rim.
