Fuel is only partially combusted when idling because an engine does not operate at its peak temperature. This leads to the build up of fuel residues on cylinder walls that can damage engine components and increase fuel consumption.
What a crock of crap!
So this means that when you stop at a stoplight, your engine temp magically plummets until you hit the gas again? That's probably why my temp gauge never moves while I'm a stoplights--gee, I'm so dumb!Aside from that...any car built in the last 12 years is going to be smart enough to know whether it's burning all the fuel being used or not, and will adjust supply accordingly.Meanwhile, they can't be bothered to explain exactly HOW idling damages the numerous parts they claim it damages.
The only "harm" idling does is using gas that wouldn't be used if the car was off.
