Interesting/Annoying little bug...

Hey everyone. I got a weird little problem. Nothing major, but it's annoying. You know how the car beeps to tell you the keys are in the ignition, and the car is off? Well for some reason my V started to beep when the car is off, but after I took the key out... Happens every time now. One time I stopped it by turning the key back to the 'ON' position, and then taking is back out, but recently this hasn't done anything.

Any ideas? Anyone else had a similar issue?

One potential cause is that the keyway has widened a bit so that the lock will release the key without actually being all the way in the "Off" position. I had a car once where this was so bad you could remove the key with the engine running.

Assuming the S has the same key receptacle as Intelligent Key setup, try wiggling the knob after removing the key to see if the motion will lock it into place.

The upshot is, if your car is still under warranty, take it to the dealer.

I've actually got a similar problem with my SL/Intellikey. It'll sometimes beep when I close the door, even though the key is in my pocket.

when our car (w/intelligent key) does that it is because you have not rotated the ignition back all the way.

as far as the OP, not sure what could be causing his problem...

Hmm, thanks for the input guys. I thought about the ign. releasing the key too early and tried turning it a little further back to be sure and it still beeped. Sometimes i can get it to stop, but when I get back to the car (say, after work) it starts to beep when I open the door. Maybe whatever, inside there, that moves to let the car know there is no key is getting stuck...? Oh well...I'll check at the Nissan dealer. I can't remember if I bought the extended warranty or not.......

Hey, maybe it's because you just armed a bomb or something wired up to your ignition. EVERYBODY RUN, IT'S GONNA BLOW!!!!!!ONe of my old cars would do the seat belt chime thing all the time until I pulled the fuse for a day or so. When I put the fuse back in, it only chimed when it was supposed to. Maybe that will help.

Ha ha, it's funny you say it's a bomb... I laughed to myself because Jasper (a fellow 300ZXclub member) is Indian and he always jokes with us about being a terrorlst. lol, dumb joke but it's funny as hell.

did you leave your lights on when you parked? It also beeps when lights are left on to remind you to turn them off.

No, the beeps are VERY different. The 'headlights on' beep is a continuous annoying, shreaking beep. The 'keys in the ignition' beep(s) are repeated triple beeps.

Not to mention the fact that it happens regardless of if I had my lights on or not.
