Pardon my noobness, but I have had my G35 coupe for a week and my exuberance already has me itching to get more out of an already kick @ss car.

I have thinking about making the plunge to the intake mod and plenum spacer. I figure what better place to find qualified opinions and recommendations than here with my fellow G owners. I was wondering if there is a consensus as to which intake (i am looking at going with the short ram mod) is the most recommended based on performance gain, price and ease of installation.

Thanks in advance for your input and recommendations.

Welcome aboard!!!

I've noticed that the majority of guys performing mods on their cars used the JWT pop charger/Z-tube combination. They've also gone with the Motordyne plenum spacer. If you like that route, then there are other manufacturers that excellent products as well...i.e. Stillen, HKS, Ingen, etc. These are very reasonable when it comes to the price versus power ratio.

If you want to go with the short ram intake (like I did), then I'd go with something like the Ingen CAI. It has a short ram version built into it -- but beware, it requires a LOT more labor to install than the above systems. For instance, you'll have to remove the bumper to access some of the OEM equipment you'll have to remove. That being said, I like the sound and perfomance I get out of the unit.

One last thing to consider, if you ever want to upgrade to forced induction, then I'd consider an intake plenum upgrade. I went with the Kinetix SSV unit and could not be happier. It looks great and I have gotten some great numbers from the install. And the best part is that it wasn't that hard to install!

I'm sure some of the others will chime in with other advice, but hope this helps answer at least a couple of questions.

Parden my newbness also. We just picked up our G35 coupe last night and I was wondering exactly what a pop charger is? I have been into Jeeps(Rockcrawlin) for the last 10 years so this low to the ground sports car thing is new to me.

going from Jeep to G35 coupe must be catching on. i made the same move myself. so far the toughest part is getting used to the visibility differences when driving in traffic.

Check out G_whizz's earlier post and read the link in his post. it gives a great summary on intake mods and the pop charger is covered in that review.

Thanks to everybody for your feedback. I have the JWT pop charger, chrome Z-tube and 5/16" ISO thermal plenum spacer on order. I'll let you know how it all goes and post pics once i'm done.

Still have the Jeep. Way to much invested in it to sell, plus I still go wheelin all the time. G35 is more of a toy for my wife, Shannon.

A pop charger is basically a cone filter that sits pretty much where the stock airbox sits. You can go to either http://www.jimwolftechnology.com or http://www.everythingg35.com to get a picture.

Stillen makes one as well, but it sits inside a stock looking airbox. You can't go wrong either way.
