Instrument cluster lighting

Help, My instrument cluster lights have quit. They started getting dim and I smelled something electrical burning and then they went out all together. I am leaning toward the brightness adjustment wheel unless someone can point me in another direction. Thanks for your help.

PS: 96 Nissan D21 pickup Frontier.

Yikes.
Take a look at the fuses. If those are fine, some wires behind the cluster might've melted.

Dimmers and H/L switches are known to go bad on these trucks.

It was the dimmer wheel. It was melted. Was going to post a picture of it, but couldn't...Thanks for everyone's help...Now to find one??? :mike :mike
