Pull out the spark plug and see if you are getting any spark. That is probably the easiest thing you could do, and may solve your problem. My car was running on 2 cylinders, and that was due to bad plugs.

An engine needs fuel, air, compression and spark in order to work. If a particular cylinder is not getting one of those, then it won't work. You could check compression with a tester, and see if it is in spec. You could also check the resistance across your injector to see if it is working properly and delivering fuel. My plugs were pretty bad when I pulled them out. It could also be the wires. Since it is only 1 cylinder that isnt firing, it seems doubtful that it is a timing problem. You seem to have limited experience with cars, so the easiest thing to do would get new spark plugs and wires and change them yourself. If you haven't done this in a while, it is a good idea to do anyways. I try and change those things every spring. Other than that, you are probably better off taking it to a mechanic you can trust to get it fixed, or bribing a friend to come and help you.

BAD! You car will run rich, possibly damaging your catalytic converter, not to mention that it will vibrate like crazy, and you will get crappy gas mileage. If you really have to limp it somewhere to get it fixed, try pulling the plug wire that goes to the injector for that cylinder. At least that way you won't be putting as much unburned gas through your cat. Seriously though, try the plugs and wires first of all, and if that doesnt work, take it to get fixed. Don't drive around on 5 cylinders.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Just read up on the forums and the factory service manual, and don't be afraid to try some minor stuff yourself.
