Hello,

My daughter has a 2018 SL with NAV, and last Monday, the infotainment did not come one when she started the car, and therefore the backup camera would not turn on in reverse, and there was no sound from the speakers. I tried the hold down Power and the hold down Power and OK for 15 seconds hoping that a reset would bring it back on, but neither of those helped. None of the fuses were blown, I even tried swapping the 20 Amp Radio fuse with the spare, no change. She drove it all week with no radio. On Friday, I completely removed and disconnected the unit, and checked the terminals and the Battery wire had 12v, the ignition wire had 12v when I turned the ignition on. After reconnecting and reinstalling, it still would not come on. At this point, I am thinking that the unit is dead, so I found a junk yard nearby that has one for $100 which I ordered, but have not picked up yet.

Yesterday, after about 10 minutes of driving, the unit turns itself on and is working normally for the 45 minute trip. After turning the car off at the destination, away for a couple hours, and then turning the car on again, the radio is not coming on again. 5 minutes later, the unit comes on again. :wtf2:

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Hokey

There should have been an R1911 recall done on the AV Unit to update it to the latest firmware. If that hasn't been done, try that first. If you're not sure, do one of two things:
1) Go to Menu->Info->System Information->Software Version on the radio. If it isn't 0810, the recall was never done.
2) Post or PM me your VIN, I can check it in ASIST.

If it's already up to date, it's possible your daughter's phone is sending it into the weeds. Try deleting the phone from the car and the car from the phone, then re-pair.

If that doesn't help, then I'd say it's probably a bad radio.

Reminds me of my first tv. It was a Mitsubishi 19 inch CRT.. it was about 10 years old when it first decided to just not turn on. So, I removed the back and found two fuses. Both little glass ones but neither were blown. I put the cover on and turned it on and it fired right up. We had that TV for another 15 years. It was still.working when I threw it out.

It looks like she doesn't have a current version:

It's a recall, you can get it done free. FYI, v140 is true dinosaurware. There have been 5 updates, 140 was the original firmware and has a ton of bugs.

This seems to be the latest version:

Seems it's limited to certain VINs ?

It is (all recalls are), but I'm about 99.9% sure that R1911 included all '18 navis.
