Infiniti Studio on Wheels

In 2014, the G37 Sedan became Infiniti Q50. G37 Coupe and Convertible became Infiniti Q60 under Infiniti's new naming structure - Here's the place to discuss the Q50 and Q60!

First time poster.

I am thinking about picking up a 2017 Q60 Red Sport and was wondering if the Infiniti Studio on Wheels plays FLAC files from USB drives.

WELCOME!!!

Man that's a good question. No idea. I guess I could always try it in mine when I get some time later this week.

The car is absolutely amazing, btw. I highly doubt you'd be disappointed in any way.

I could find nothing in my owners manual ('16 q50 RS400), but if you're a serious shopper, take the USB drive to a dealer and plug it in, no guessing or misinformation, it works or it doesn't.

I love my RS400, fierce engine, and I've owned Germans and Jags in the past. Two universal complaints and I agree: 1) in some regions the RWD models get Dunlop Sport Maxx summer run flats, they stink, negotiate a tire swap, and 2) the exhaust is just too quiet, it need to be replaced. There is pumped in engine sound through two speakers, it can be turned on/off in the service menu, but's artificial and not enough.

I was at my dealer today, they have 3 RS400s, two already have the Infiniti branded Motorsport axelback exhaust installed (I got the first one they ordered, gave up waiting on Stillen). My sales guy said they are selling better with the Motorsport exhaust installed at the dealer, they have one stock car and let folks drive both, the "throatier" (yet not obnoxious) exhaust helps close deals.

Negotiate a tire swap, get the Infiniti Motorsport axelback, or some other aftermarket axelback/catback and you have a serious lux-sport car that can roar and go to a country club.

Here's my Black Obsidian, I had the dealer paint the chrome grill frame the body color, it lowers the front end look..........

Hi there!

I took two Q60s out for test drives yesterday - the 2.0 litre which was boring, and the 3.0 which was very quick. I found the cornering on the 3.0 to not be as good as my BMW 328i, It leaned more around corners, but the fit and finish of the Q60 was great. I did not try the Q60 Red Sport. Is the suspension of the Q60 Red Sport better than the the others? Can the driver choose suspension settings on this vehicle?

Thanks for aall of your comments. I look forward to reading more!

By the way, the stereos could not handle lossless formats (WAV or FLAC) which really surprised me! Apparently the units can only handle MP3s - yuck!

From the Infiniti website, Red Sport differences

Includes all Q50 3.0t Sport standard features plus:
400-hp 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo
Unique exhaust tip design
Exclusive 19-inch staggered fragment aluminum-alloy wheels (Width: 9.0" FR, 9.5" RR)
Sport brakes with red painted calipers
Summer performance run-flat tires
Red "S" exterior badges
Dynamic Digital Suspension

The Silver Sport is quick, the Red Sport is fast. The Sport and Sport+ modes are pre-sets, over standard they are aggressive and more aggressive, they affect suspension, engine shift points, and steering responsiveness. Personal mode lets you pick and choose from the menu screens and create your own pre-set, very cool. Don't think the Silver Sport has Sport+ mode. I use Sport mode all the time, Sport+ will have you chirping tires at every red light and shift, but it's great when you want to play.

Not a fan of the Direct Adaptive steering, $1K option and only 20% of buyer get it, the RS400 steering still stiffens with the sport modes, while the adaptive steering is steer-by-wire and can change turn ratios, I didn't like it.

The standard Germans are not as fast as the RS400, you have to go to M/AMG/RS models. I shopped them all, comparably equipped (the infiniti has great tech and surround cameras) you will pay $7-15K more, and the Red Sports are a bit unique, I see BMW/Mercedes/Audi every corner in Dallas.

This is my third Infiniti in 6 years, before that I had Jaguar and BMW, six months in I really like the car. The size is a tweener too, bigger than 3 series BMW, C class Mercedes and A4, but smaller than their mid-size models. Rear seat room is very good and seats fold down with a decent pass through.

The shifting, I use the wonderful large Magnesium paddles, seems to map to throttle response as well as RPM. It shifts quick under acceleration, a bit lazier if you're not on the gas, not double clutch quick but not bad, and in manual mode you must shift, it will let you red line without cutting off.

I'm a fan. Infiniti is flirting with a future Black Sport model, 500hp, they are serious about giving the Germans competition at $60K instead of $75K.

End of sale pitch, hope I gave you some useful information.............

I really appreciate the very detailed response. I'll have to take the Q60 Red Sport out for a test drive to check out the handling. I've always looked for cars that handle extremely well and am not overly concerned about pure speed. My current 3-Series does 0-60 in 5.2 and that's good enough for me. I will also have to reconcile buying my first automatic trasmission.

The Infiniti's 3.0 pricing also beat the BMW's pricing by a significant amount (here in Toronto). So there are lots of things to consider.

Thanks again!

Stay tuned :)
