When put to the test against the 2006 Porsche Cayenne S, the BMW X5 4.4i and the Mercedes-Benz R500, the FX45 delivered better 0-to-60 acceleration times than every other model — the Porsche in particular, by .80 seconds.

On top of that, the FX outperformed the competition in NINE other tests, including braking and slalom.

Not surprising at all.I've always looked at the FX as a G45 Wagon rather than an SUV. The results of this test seem to confirm that.

The Cayenne is a Touareg with fancy badges. I'll never understand it's appeal. It's ugly and about as much a porsche as my neighbor's New Beetle is.The Benz is yet another MB luxmobile that hit it's head and got delusions of sportiness.

Of all the models tested, the SRX V8 is the only other car of this type I'd even consider buying. It's also really just a wagon (STS wagon, basically). The FX is so much better looking, though (not that the SRX is unattractive). The choice of Northstar vs VK is a tough one. The German origins of the BMW, MB, and Porsche (Volkswagen!) pretty much kill any desire to own one. And Volvos are about as exciting as dying in your sleep.
