OK, I searched the technical forum for threads on crappy idles. Well mines not rough like most peoples', it just wavers alot. The most consistent it ever is, is when it wavers back and forth between about 450 and 700. It will sometimes idle as high as 2grand even when the engine is warm. Should I check the same things that the rough idle folk need too or is mine something different?

Thanks,Cliff

Idle Air Control Valve... (IACV) ... theres several of them such as the IACV-AAC which allows more air in when you turn on the A/c. Etc.

Yep, and clean out your throttle body and plate. IAC = between your firewall and intake manifold, lower left hand side if your looking at engine from passenger side. While your in that area, check your egr tube and the area it leads to... make sure there's no air leaks around there.

OK. So, clean TB, check IAC valve and EGR valve. What would I be checking on the IAC valve? Look for leaks or what?

Thanks,Cliff

Yeah, basically what you said. I would just pull the assembly out, clean it up, and make sure its not leaking air into the system. I think there is a rubber gasket on the idle screw to prevent air from leaking in. That may be bad. Or it could also be a vacuum leak on the lines.

You may throw a code if your EGR is leaking... it will give you a lean condition code or an EGR related code.

Also do you have a stereo system. Sometimes if you amp is drawing a lot of power, you idle will jump and weave like you are saying. just a thought though

Definately not a big system. There's a Kenwood cassette deck, haven't checked the speakers. I just bought the car a few days ago.
