Hi all. I have a 2017 Rogue SL AWD and on 2 occasions when I’ve been caught with a low battery, the immobilizer is activated (red key icon on the instrument cluster). At one time I found working reset steps on the internet, but can’t find it again. It had something to do with pressing the push start button with the key fob (no key start on this year). I’ve tried disconnecting the battery with no luck. The current condition is crank with no start when pressing the start button. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about low 12V battery, or low key-fob battery?

If the battery in the key fob is weak the procedure is to push the start button with the actual fob.

Low 12v battery. Fob battery is fine.

Crank with no start on an I-Key vehicle isn't a security issue. If the fob isn't recognized, the BCM simply won't let the engine crank. That's different from models with a smart hard-key, which will crank-no-start. For I-key, if it cranks but has a security lamp, something in the system is confused. You can try a hard reset (take both battery cables loose and jump the cables together for 5 minutes minimum). If one of the controllers has addled brains, that will usually fix it.

Thanks. The crank but no start with security key icon issue has occurred twice. The first time I was able to reset it using some process that included the door locks cycling twice. The icon when off, and engine started immediately. I will try disconnecting the battery as advised.
