a mechanic told me some of these mods could cause the check engine light to stay on. any truth to this?

best bang for buck is the 5/16 plenum spacer combined with the z-tube... usable mid range power and better engine sound. had these installed on my 2005 g35x, didnt get any check engine lights and i installed it my self. Just have to make sure you use a torque wrench and screw bolts on the spacer in the prescribed pattern... like 18 bolts. Its a very easy mod, but not one to be rushed...

As far as exhaust, i just had a 2005-2006 coupe mid pipe installed, with stock muffler. But i havent heard anything bad about megan racing or HKS axle backs, even seen people mix and match them.

I have the 5/16 Plenum spacer installed from the previous owner, what I'm curious about is what is the actual gain of this mod? Or does it simply add to the throaty sound of the engine?

since you brought the car with it... you wont "feel" the gains... but i can assure you your car is different without the spacer.

HFC's will have decent gains, as will a CAT-Back exhaust. I would stay away from underdrive pulleys. The engine damper will help when you have some serious power...supercharger/turbo/internal engine mods.

Shift kits will help times, but really not needed without extra HP.

The sway bar will be good if you track car.

Plenum spacer +1
Shift Kit +1
HFC +1

suspension mods are nice. Check the Fabricators market (fabricators-market.html) and there are a few things. Also check marketplace from time to time you can find deals.

You can do lightened pulleys which are the same diameter. I know some have had issues with them allowing too much vibration and hurting the motor?

im thinking about testing this combination on an old rim. plastidip white base, then white duplicolor engine enamel, then clear coat(not sure about a brand on this one) i understand im a little late getting started. i know the plastidip craze was a couple years ago. just curious if anyone has tried that combination.

also, for other parts of the car, say the grill or parts that get hit by bugs, would plastidip alone be ok? no other coating needed?

I have done the Unorthodox pulley on 2 VQ engines. If I had to do it over again I would not. It is just not worth it in my opinion. Negligible gains.
