Per a suggestion from Arnold (AlphaSnacks), I removed the intake ram air duct today and WOW. Thing sounds GREAT.

Yep. You won't get any heat soak either when it's hot. I live in Florida, you can trust me on that one. LOL

Wheels came in today. They weighed in, on my bathroom scale, at 30.6lbs each. Again, for those who remember, they are Incurve IC-S10 20x9 +35.

Next Up:
  • BC Racing Coilovers
  • 245/40/20 summer tires (will be purchased after I'm done with my current 19" all seasons - the 19" wheels will become my winter wheels from there on)
For reference, here is a photoshop of what I'm hoping it'll all end up looking like:

Are you planning on running spacers on them?

If needed, hopefully I don't need anything more than 5mm or so.

Can't wait to see how those wheels look. I am also keenly interested in the tune. I don't actually own an M56 yet, but when I do, that tune is #2 on my list after the exhaust.

Keep the updates coming!

Hey, since you dabble with phitoshopping, have you looked at what your car might look like with white rims dropped? Might be a good look instead of buying vossens.

Hey, see above. Those are Incurve wheels, not Vossen. I'll never do white though, haha.

Ilya,
The car is coming along very nicely! I just want to suggest, since you haven't bought tires, consider getting 255 series instead of the OEM 245's. They will fit your wheels perfectly and they give the stance a more aggressive appearance. They don't look 'fat', but they do look noticeably wider and grab better in wet and dry.

I did look today and there is a much smaller selection and the price isn't worth the difference IMO, so I'm going to stay with 245/40/20.

I've heard and seen that the midnight grille doesn't fit the sport bumper... I've never had it confirmed but if you look up the part it does exclude the Sport M/Q70's...
according to RED DET the midnight black grill will fit either bumper.
As for the fogs; they're all the same, just the finishers (chrome rings) are different.

Welp, after many months, I've been forced to buy tires for my 20's. The 19's I currently have on now are bent (at least one of them) due to the wonderful (read: COMPLETE SHEET) roads in NY/NJ and even after a re-balance, vibrate pretty significantly at 80mph. Tires still have some meat on em, so I don't know if I'll just rock them in the winter to finish them up or just take the hit and get the wheels fixed/repainted and put dedicated snows on.

That being said, I went with 245/40/20 Pirelli Cinturato P7 A/S Plus tires. The Tire Rack reviews and ratings are INSANE. I could in theory use them as a full-time all-season tire but we'll see...I want these wheels to last and that means not driving them on crappy winter roads that snow plows destroy.

Not the prettiest of treads, but it'll do. I plan to get the tires mounted onto the wheels (with the new OEM TPMS sensors I bought for $45 on EBay) on or around August 8th.

House keeping post as I forgot to include it in the build:

On 12/13/14 (Nice! haha), I upgraded my HID bulbs to the OSRAM XENARC 66240 CBI variety. Here is a quote of a post I made at the time in the Y50 forum:
IlyaKol wrote:Finally installed my bulbs. Here's some comparisons. Definitely brighter/more even spread light with the added benefit of being slightly more blue which I like.

EDIT: Bulbs are called OSRAM Xenarc 66240 CBI not CB1.

On 2/28/15 I installed TollBoothWilley's (TBW's) Aluminum Engine Under Tray. Here's a quote from a post I made at the time:

Wow looks very good! If I ever do decide to lower my car I'll be sure to TollBoothWilley for the under body shield. Haha seeing all that road salt makes me cringe. LOL

The shield is amazing.

I hate the northeast for three reasons:

1) Winter
2) INSANE cost of living. I can get a house in NC for $250k that is $400k in NY.
3) Taxes. Taxes. Taxes.

I was just in NC looking around 2 weeks ago and I don't think I can pull the trigger to leave the only place I've ever lived...but damn it would be nice.

Haha yeah winter sucks especially since I am over in Minnesota. I'll be interested to see how the M handles considering that it looks and handles like a whale. LOL

My sister did live out in NC for about two years and she just moved back to MN less than a month ago. I missed my chance to fly out there and visit. Are you down in NC for work?

I'm in New Jersey for work until August 7th then I move back to NY. I was visiting for a wedding in Charlotte. Love Charlotte, but don't know if I can pull the trigger.

As for handling, I just autocrossed the M at NICOFest last weekend...car handles better than you think. Once you get better rubber on the tires and lower the car, it'll be quite good.

Well, I finally got back home and managed to get my new wheels mounted (with OEM TPMS sensors from EBay - although those don't seem to be registering at the moment) and balanced and installed on my car.

I'm pretty happy. I *may* only need like 5mm spacers once I lower on BC's...or I might not need anything at all (would be sweet lol).

Here are the results:

Wow, those fit really well...good choice! That offset looks perfect at the stock height, hopefully when its dropped it will sit exactly how you want it to.

Looks good! A lot of wheel and tire combinations seem to exaggerate the OEM fender gap making the car look lifted. These seem to still look ok on the stock suspension. But the drop will still make the whole package look better. :D

What do you guys think of the matte silver look? I'm wondering if I should get them redone to be non-matte.

Not sure how I feel about the matte silver. I had a set of wheels redone in that color and after all of that I'm not even sure I like them...they just don't "pop" enough for me...

I prefer the gloss look since I keep my car super shiny  I say get some clear on them!

For me it comes down to the look the owner is going for. For more race/drift/sport style looks I think the matte fits better. I see a lot of M3's, Mustangs, 370/G37's running matte wheels that look right at home with their other mods like decals, spoilers, etc.

For a more luxo look I think some gloss on the wheels is proper. Keeps thinks looking crisp and fresh if that makes sense.

I couldn't even tell they were matte finish in the pics above maybe since they appear to be in an overcast weather setting or shadows. I think the think spoke design makes it a little harder to notice at least in the pics.

Dang, I typed too much. Go with your gut!

Friend of mine did a little photoshoot for me because I wanted some before and after shots (before being now, after being once I lower the car and put different pipes on it). Love how these turned out.

I agree. Great photos! The new wheels are simply brilliant! They match the body perfectly. Too bad that your state makes you carry a front plate. At least it is centered instead of off to one side like a mingo.
