So I don't know about you guys, but my suspension is beat. There is talk of a possible group buy for the OEM deluxe rebuild kit, which includes all of the rubber parts as well as the shocks and struts, as shown here: http://www.infinitipartsusa.co...=3221

You know you want the J to handle like new.

The number thrown out so far is $800 SHIPPED with 5 buyers (about $115 off). And let's not forget that it's tax return time, people.

Hey Guys,I have had some questions regarding a purchase deal on different variations of the kit. I am more than willing to work with all of you on this, considering even $800 is a lot to drop at once. I will be willing to offer a mix & match kit to apply to the group buy quantity. Below is a list of the suspension part numbers, descriptions, prices and quantities needed:

So, if you want JUST the struts & shocks you would be looking at $575.65 shipped...

Remember, all I need is 5 purchases to sell at this GB price. Also, the shipping that is posted above is for the lower 48 states only. For all other inquiries outside of the lower 48 please email me at [email protected].

I asked my Technicians and they are claiming that this job, with bushings, mounts and boots, is a five hour job NOT including an alignment. I would expect this to cost most of you $400 - $500 in labor with alignment at most independent shops. In contrast, at an Infiniti dealership you would be most likely pay $650-$750, alignment included.

You can always install the kit yourself if you are feeling up to it. As Maxnix mentioned in another thread you can use the FSM as your resource, luckily, since you have NICO connections, you can get it here free: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/J30/

Hi Joe,

This is really tempting, provided we're due a tax refund and the state of CA can make good on their IOUs. If it only came with a transmission guarantee...

How about springs for the J30 and J30t, for those in the rusty states? And does the '94 FSM cover the '93 well enough?

Thank you for working on this.

Thanks for the clarification and on-boardedness, dude.

That five hour labor deal is going to put a damper on the situatuion for me. I have no garage and limited technical ability. Now I'll have to see how big my tax return is...

Because of the fact I don't stock the springs, and the differences in the HICAS option, I cannot add them to the GB pricing. Here is the normal 25% off pricing on them regardless:

54010-0P401 2 SPRING-FRONT $167.93 Ea. $335.86 Total FRONTS (SAME ALL) 55020-0P303 2 SPRING-REAR SUSPE $137.21 Ea. $274.42 Total REARS (NON-HICAS) 55020-0P401 2 SPRING-REAR SUSPE $134.50 Ea. $269.00 Total REARS (HICAS)

I don't think it would hurt to maybe call around. The 5 hour quote isn't Mitchell, it was a quote from my Service Manager. I'm sure you'll find some variance out there by calling around...

The mix and match is intriguingMy struts were replaced by the PO but all the rubber is shot.

I don't have any leakage and they seem fine as in no bouncing Ect.

Fair enough. For now, though, my car rides like a trampoline.

Decisions, decisions. I know my shocks and the rubber boots need replacing, but I also know I have a lot of major expenses coming up. I have 193,500 miles on the car now, and at 210,000 I will have to replace the timing belt. I also will need two new front tires in about another thousand miles or so. I don't know if its worth spending $800 on the suspension at this point. Maybe better to sell the car when its next smog test is due in July and buy a newer car with less miles on it. I would hate to start putting money into the car and then have it start nickle and diming me. I have been very lucky so far and have spent almost nothing on repairs in the past four and a half years I have owned my 94 J30T.BTW, for anyone who has over 193,000 miles on their J30, did the cost of repairs go up significantly as the car got older and got more miles on it or did it keep about the same? At what mileage would it be a good idea to make plans to get rid of your car?

If you have spent "almost nothing" in the last 4 1/2 years, it is time to dump it, as you have neglected to proactivly maintain it, and I am sure many systems are near failing from this lack of regular preventative investment.

My proactive maintenance was changing the engine oil and filter as specified, changing the air filter, flushing the radiator coolant, and doing a fluid exchange/ pan cleaning on the transmission, and replacing the wiper blades, and topping off fluid levels as needed. The total repairs were replacing one radiator hose, one headlamp bulb, and one alternator belt, and one steering rack rubber bellows. And my car is still probably in as good or better condition than most J30s on the road. I bought the car for $3300 four and a half years ago. Probably the best car investment I ever made. Engine and transmission run strong, body and paint in almost perfect shape, all power accessories work except for a flaky driver side power door lock. The shocks do need replacing, but only cause a problem when going over bad bumps at high speed. on good roads the bad shocks are not noticeable and the car rides smooth. Car has never failed to start and get me where I was going.

I personally think spending money to keep the J in shape is a LOT less than a car payment and full insurance coverage.Plus after digging in and doing the TBelt , water . pump. tstat ect myself I have a bond with this dang car.

Yoda, that's basically the point I keep wrestling with. On one hand, it seems perfectly sensible to keep up with it and see how long the car will last. In the other hand, I've already done the nickle-and-dime thing with two cars. I really don't want to do it again.

I think we all know these cars will last as long as we keep them in shape. Now that I have my son all setup for college Im gonna start putting some money back each payday for the inevitable transmission change.I honestly think the engine will go for a LONG time with proper maintenance. The bottom end of these VG's are bullet proof !!

I agree. Although there will always be repair costs on the horizon, at least there is no car payment and very low insurance costs (relatively).
