whats up guys...i don't have emissions here in SC and this guy that lives in NC is really interested in buying my car. he wanted to know if it would pass emissions. since i have NO CLUE about emissions tests, i was wondering if the SR20DET (pushing about 400rwhp give or take) would pass it. i have NO CLUE, so help me out if u have knowledge...

No

I really doubt it, first of all your car is "Illegal" Second, did you remove the cat? Thrid you are going to have a ton of emmisions from cold start. I really think there is no way..

It definitely won't pass visual inspection. So theres your first problem(them looking at it) But you might be lucky and the person will have no idea what it is... Anyway, with that much horsepower there is no way that it will pass, sorry

In IL they wont run it on the rollers if you have 17 inch or larger rims.. There is also no visual inspection in IL. So if you have a good cat, and go to stock boost i would say you have a chance. I have a friend with an s13 that passes the sniffer. I think if i remember right he had 206 hydro carbons and the max allowed in IL is 220.

god, bp your i think your car still looks hella nice, one of the nicest i've seen, no kit just simple and slick. How much did you buy the camber kit for and how much did it cost to put them in?

it won't pass emmisions... SR is illegal and so you will fail the visual right off the bat.. and so you would need a crooked smog shop to pass you...

black 240, not all states have visual inspection. If where it is going to be tested does he will fail. But i know for a fact here in il, we have a gas cap test, and they run the car on rollers. If you have over 17 inch wheels you just get sniffer at idle. It is possible to pass snifer, but you can pass a visual inspection without paying someone off.

Front camber kit was like 30 dollars, for ingalls. Its 2 bolts easy to install. Not sure what i am going to do about the back yet.. I was thinking hks camber plates but kind of pricey...

BP2000,The MAJOR thing you forgot about Illinois emissions that directly affects you:Unless your '95 was a mid-year without OBD-II, there'sno roller, no sniffer, just the OBD test."A scan tool will be connected to the vehicles on board computer to determine OBD system status."Anything other than a KA ECU working/monitoring properly = failed the emissions test.

It says it right on the back of the emissions notice.Good luck with your SR swap- hope the law doesn't screw you.But maybe you knew this already and your car is safe....be sure to remind any other Chicago people about this when they want SR's into '95+ 240's.

edit:some more proof I stumbled across:http://www.240sxforums.com/for...ber=1

and from the state:http://www.epa.state.il.us/air/vim/faq/OBD.html

Anyone concerned about emmissions just needs to move to Kansas. Here is my reasoning, first of all, we don't have it. Secondly, we won't ever have it. This is due to a couple of reasons. First of all, have any of you ever seen a 30yr old tractor running at full blast? Not only can you plow feilds, but you can smoke out beehives. Secondly, we have more cows than we have people. That means that there is an incredible amount of methane relased into the air everyday. If they start worrying about emmissions in Kansas, they'll kill the cows first.

With my KA yes. My Sr should be going in in the next couple of months. I just got my tags so that i got a couple years to worry about the SR passing. Once i get it in tho, im going to take it right over to DEQ for shyts and grins. Hell, if it doesnt pass, it doesnt cost me anything, at least ill know.

I know this is of no help to you right this very moment, but im just going to do the swap, and worry about passing later.

Portland huh? Me too. hit me up with an e-mail.
