Hi I'm fairly new to this forum and searched around for my exact problem but couldn't find a direct example of my situation. My car is a 92 NA manual, i have 70k miles and did my timing belt myself within the last 200 miles. Before the timing belt my car always searched a little at idle. was never annoying or bad, just couldn't quite make up its mind and usually stayed at 750RPM. However, now it will idle perfectly at 700-800RPM warmed up, then the idle will suddenly drop and almost stall and then save itself. it will just get into a pattern of dropping and saving itself. Im fairly confident i installed the timing belt correctly, went by the manual and used Z1's 120k service kit and checked its alignment after hand cranking the engine. Only thing I can recall that I didn't do well was rush to put the rest of the car back together after the belt was installed. Ive checked for vacuum leaks with some Carb cleaner and came up with nothing. The car runs and drives perfect when accelerating, but it will kinda stutter when very light throttle is applied.

Any advice is helpful, I just need some guidance before I start jumping to expensive conclusions.

Howdy! Bummer to hear man.

Have you had any luck with using a timing light to see what is occurring when this happens?
You may want to look into that, and the ignition system- wires, coils, plugs, etc.

What did you set the timing at? Should be 13° +/-2° BTDC.

Did you adjust the idle at the control valve?
TPS adjustment?

i used a timing light. It needed a slight adjustment to be at 15 BTDC, but it looked steady and without issue.
