Hi, my 2003 i35 interior fan is on maximum high all the time. No way to alter speed, even turning fan off, it is still on. I thought it was a resistor, but now I am reading about an amplifier. I called my local Nissan dealer and he can sell me a Nissan resister which he says will work on my Infiniti. But I want to make sure this is what I need to replace. I disconnected it last night from underneath the glove box and then the fan didn't work at all, so I am assuming that is the right part. But it doesn't look exactly like the resistor I see pictured. I was hoping for a cheap and easy fix...
Thank you for any advice you can give.

The problem is a burned out Darlington resistor which is a component of the Fan Control Amplifier. If you're good with a soldering gun you can replace just the resistor:

If you're not the DIY type buy a new Fan Control Amp from the stealership and clean up the dirty fan blades on the blower motor. The extra weight of the dirt accumulation on the blades contributed to the amp's failure.

It's doubtful that the dealer sells only the resistor which is about the size of a dime but you might ask again when you're at the counter.

Thank you for your help. So I need the blower motor module part # 277612Y000? It will be me and my husband trying to replace this and as it is his car I got the year wrong - it's a 2002 but I assume that doesn't make a difference. I found this on infinitipartsusa.com. Is this a good source? Will the fan blades be easy to find/clean? Thanks again for your help!

I only know it as a fan control amplifier and that's what it's called in the FSM. The "blower motor module" may be the blower motor and not the fan control amp. I'm not sure. You get the same 25% discount by calling InfinitiPartsUSA (Infiniti of Scottsdale) so order by phone to make sure you get the correct part.

See pages HA-67 and 68 for the location of the fan control amp and the blower motor and a description of their functions.

You'll probably have to remove the glovebox (see the body section of the FSM) to get to the amp and blower. They're both fastened in place with 10mm or 12mm bolts. You won't need to replace the blower motor, just remove it and clean up the plastic blade assembly to lighten up the load that the motor has to spin. The amp changeout is simple- two bolts and an electrical connector. A caveman could this on the Q45 and I suspect the I35 won't be much different. Good luck.
