Over the weekend I picked up some leather seats from a 99 Maxima for the 99 I30. The Maxima seats do not have seat back SRS units. The Maxima seats are much better condition than the I30 seats. I would like to make the swap.

After unplugging the SRS cable on a trial run, I tried to reset the SRS error light with no luck.

I can get the SRS control unit from the 99 Maxima (the one under the center console). Also, the I30 is now running with the ECM from that same 99 Maxima.

Are there any other modules that I need to replace (possibly in addition to the SRSCM) so that the I30 will behave like the 99 Maxima's SRS setup?

Thank you in advance for any help.

I've got some options -- I think..

It turns out that Z car guys have this issue when replacing OEM seats.

1) Nismo purportedly sells an airbag harness converter for converting a car to use with after market seats.

2) Splice in a 4.7ohm (or 2.2 ohm?) resistor in the line to replace the seat plug to make a homemade version of the Nissan harness converter.

3) I'll continue with my plan to replace the SRS module from the 99 Maxima to prove or disprove that idea.

I tried option #3 with no success. After several attempts to reset SRS, the ABS light stays on.. Also, options #1 and #2 are proven with the Z community. .

I'd go with option #2. I did this in my old Integra without any issues.

Thanks for the information. I received the 4.7 ohm (yellow-violet-black) resistors from California today. I aim to do it this weekend.

Here's an update and answer to my own questions.

Is 4.7 Ohm correct for a 99 model I30? NO

When all else fails, take out your multi-meter and measure the line resistance to the seat SRS unit to determine the correct resistor to purchase. I found the 99 I30 seat SRS to be at 2.2 Ohm.

Now I am ordering some 2.2 Ohm resistors from California.

Reporting back to close the topic and also provide a working reference. The 2.2 Ohm resistor worked perfectly. Though it may not have been necessary, I used the SRS reset (7 door switch taps in 5 seconds) procedure.

So if you are planning to replace the OEM seats in a 1999 model I30 with seats from a Maxima or after market performance seats, a 2.2 Ohm resistor WILL work.
