Have you done any autox or anyhting yet? It may be a good idea to start at some low speed / car control events first..........err, well.....I know it's a good idea. to start there.

Have you been to anything like that yet? Even with the teg or any of your other cars? Hows your elbow injury hold up to more intense driving?

You should start by telling us what kind of racing you want to do.

I haven't really gone on the track, cuz I never really had a nice car to take to it. Going to be my first time. I'm going to need some assistance. By the way, thank you so much for your concern about my elbow. Very considerate of you. My elbow is doing alright, still going through physical therapy. My physical therapist say I should drive the 350Z more often, it's a good exercise.

check with your local SCCA and NASA chapters for lapping events, there are entry level events where you can run with a basic street car in a non competition format, NASA call theirs "time attack" and SCCA used to call theirs "PDX" but they changed the name to soemthing more hip, also BMWCCA also hosts lots of lapping days that are open to all cars, keep in mind that admissing to these events is aobut $300 and up and you might need new tires and brakes afterwords depending on how hard you drive it

Frankly, I would learn to drive grip first. Then learn to drift. Learning to drive fast at the limits of grip will translate pretty easily for most people into great car control when driving beyond the limits of traction.

I used to do track events set up by these guys:

http://speedtrialusa.com/index1.html

Their next event is at the end of this month and it looks like they have plenty of space in the beginner's group. They tend to be real conservative with the beginners to keep you from getting into too much trouble. Sometimes they'll set up things in the track to slow down faster/dangerous parts of the track as well. Since the run is on the big track at willow springs, they might do a lot. That track is quite fast. Streets of Willow, on the other hand is a little better suited to beginners. They are running on that course in December. They'll have "instructors" on hand to give you advice as well...even ride along. You might even ask to ride along with them. Last I drove with them, they discouraged drifting though. The track staff didn't like it and it presented problems for the guys actually trying to go fast.

Cost isn't too bad with these guys ($150), but you will need to get an SA rated helmet. It helps to get your car teched before race day as well.

Drifter....sweet!

It's a while before you should do that, and quite honestly, you should sell the integra and get a cheaper RWD car (240's are really the best car for it, s14 1995-97chassis if you can) You are GOING to mess up your car if you start driftin, hell we hit shyt on purpose NO DRIFTING IN THE NISMO Though its a good chassis for it

Start off by goign to autocrosses and track days - hook up with people you know that have been going for a while and have some experience (maybe even people from this forum if you don't know enough now). Ride with them on the track, have them ride with you as much as you can - seat time is how you get better. It gets expensive though.

Honestly, I really do with you were closer I'd help you out. You seem cool as hell, and girl that likes cars and wants to drift would get myhelp.

You may want to look on the road racing autox or drift forums on Nico - try to meet up with some people near you. If you really ever have any questions about a good car / drifting etc, just email me or something.

What you need to find is an HPDE (High performance Driving Event). These events are run by clubs that offer track time that is non competetive. There are certain rules that apply like only passing in passing zones, and you must have a point by to pass. The first time you will get an instructor to teach you basic car handling and the track line. You will drive with him until he feels comfortable in your abilities and he signs you off for solo. NASA runs HPDE events.

You certainly are not up to competition level in your driving skill and should work on developing your abilities as a driver.

HPDE's are expensive. They will cost you for brakes, brake fluid, tires, track feee of about $300, instructor fee, and track insurance. A day might cost about $750-$1000.

Get out there and find an HPDE to attend and sign up. You won't regret it.
