I replaced the oil pump on my car which requires removing the timing belt of course, and well now that I try to fire it up the engine takes awhile and is really hard to start almost to the point of it won't start, but I got it to start and it sounded and idled so rough, loud and erratic. It wouldn't stay running unless I gave it gas either. Car ran fine before doing any of this so I know it's not a fuel or any other issue really. Cause I've only touched a few things

Well Guess it's time to count the teeth between the marks on the timing sprockets? I counted the ones at the top and got 45 between the middle two, and then 24 between the two on the passenger side sprocket which is correct. I haven't checked yet but I was wondering if it was possible for the number of teeth between the crank sprocket and the first exhaust sprocket on the driver's side to be off but not the other ones? :gotme

Id say if all of the marks are dead on. It has to be a massive vac leak or a electrical connection thats not on point

well, that could be a thought as well. Because I replaced the knock sensor as well and to do that you have to take off the lower intake manifold as well, and maybe the gasket isn't sealing properly or something? Guess I should check that again if the timing marks are ok.. I mean as far as installing the belt to my knowledge all you do is line up the marks on the belt with the ones on the sprockets and crank gear right? I mean that's what I did lol :gotme

Ya buddy i reccomend takin her all the way down to the gears again. Pull the plugs and verify #1 is at tdc. Then make sure all of them are all lined up and spot on, my bet is crank is off a couple nubs. And when finally assembly is done. Make sure all electrical connections are solid

I thought I had #1 at TDC, but I guess not, how can you tell? I already have everything off, again

as far as electrical connections all the grounds are on and what not, PTU is doing fine as well

And yeah that's what a lot of people are saying, maybe crank isn't in right position. I thought about vacuum leak too but idk, cause if I give the car gas it gives it enough air to start up, otherwise no it doesn't start

Well i always use something like a rounded coat hanger in the spark hole and turn it still it goes all the way up and when it starts to go back down stop. But #1 is right next to the oil cap.. Keep the T belt on so everything is in sync. Since these are interference engines, you CANT cycle the cams around seperately.

Use some maff cleaner and clean the the maff and then use some throttle body and intake cleaner spray to clean the tbs and intake runners . and then make sure the ignition timing is on point at 15° btdc and then adjust the tps to .44 volts at closed throttle and verfy that its close
