Just because it exhibits spark and fuel doesn't mean it's supposed to run if other issues are hampering it. Spray starting fluid into a vaccum line leading into the intake or any hole that will get the fluid into the runners and then try and start it. If it cranks and runs for a second, you're either having fueling issues such as your fuel lines being crossed, etc, etc. If your ignition is weak (ie weak battery), the CA will not crank. And lastly, if the orange near the glove compartment is not connected or it's powered source is dead, it will not crank. Try those things and see how it goes.

Hrrrmm... you need pages ef-ec 39-42 of the workshop manual...

However if you already have it, it may be the euro version.. ignore base timing in this (if you have jdm ca18) as the jdm base timing is 10 +- 2

Ecu not plugged in all the way? Do you have an SAFC wired in? Have you tested your coil packs? My guess is timing.

If you have another CAS laying around try swapping it out.

When you swapped the CAS, how did you time it? If it is 180 degrees off you will get perfect spark, and no ECU codes, but the car will refuse to start, all it will do is crank and pop, if the starting fluid has no effect, I would pull the valve cover and manually retime the CAS.

PS, good to have you back Ed, even if only out of desperation. What car is this CA in?

Are you postive that the ignition timing is set correctly??

I had a similar problem with mine when i bought it.It wouldnt fire, and only pop every 30sec of cranking.

It turned out that the CAS drive in the exhaust cam was broken. It was firing ,but the ignition timing was erratic, and at the wrong time

Spend some time making sure it fires all the time, and at the correct time.
