I got code P0455, Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I have a 2002 Sentra SE-R with code P0455, Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected(this is my wife's car and I have very little experience working on this car). I can't find a working FSM for this vehicle online. So if someone can link me to a working FSM or let me know where the Evaporative Emission Control System is. I can take a look at it. It's not a big deal as I don't need to smog my cars, but it's just annoying knowing that there was a code. Oh yeah, I've already resetted the ECM. Hopefully the code doesn't come back.

There's a link in my sig to get an FSM.

It's usually the gas cap. It can also be the Evaporative Canister purge valve. Make sure the gas cap is tight and just watch for the code to pop up again.

Yeah, can't tell you how many cars we have come into work with that code for the gas cap.

About as many as we see with the Vent Control Valve. Seems that Illinois is a bad place to own a car, since the Evap cannister is visible and it collects crap around it.

nissantech, that actually reminds me to ask you...

For a little while now my car has been unable to idle on its own right after filling up. It also randomly stalls when I put it in neutral if I don't blip the throttle at least a little bit (this only happens rarely).

I'm getting an evap code. The gas cap has been replaced twice. I had a shop replace the evap canister, but I don't think they heard me when I said it's the valve that's malfunctioning, so I think they manage to procure only the canister and reused the valve. I know the purge valve (or vent valve) fails around 50-60k, so I'm right in there. Is that what's causing my stalling issues too?

Mines a partial mod ga16de, I had a similar problem and it turned out it was just a pcv valve, but the evaporation system was my first guess too.

Thanks I appreciate the help. So far the light hasn't come back on so I think I'm good.

Um...you might be right, but it honestly sounds like your fuel is getting blocked somehow...might be a related problem. I wish I could help you more than that!

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but I can't find anything because it's so intermittent so I'm just going off the code I've got and hoping.

Thanks.
