I have had my Rogue for almost 4 months and 4K miles. Just for kicks I looked in at my former vehicle's best forum site and it seems the issue I had with my old 2006 RAV 4 still continues with some of the Toyotas. I can't say it loud enough the CVT in the Rogue is much much better than the RAV4 transmission. The Rogue is a quick, fun to drive crossover. How do you feel after a little time and miles in your Rogue?
See the posts on the RAV4 below:
I have about 9k miles on mine and I love it for the most part. What I absolutely dislike about it though is when I press down on the gas pedal to quickly accelerate, such as when merging into traffic (big deal here in NJ!) sometimes the vehicle will not cooperate.
Just last night this happened. I was coming off a highway, merging onto another highway, look back to see how far away the car coming up on me is, decide yeah I can merge. Push down the pedal to go from probably 15 mph up to at least 40, and the vehicle would not accelerate, for what seemed like several seconds. It actually got to the point that I was considering pulling off to the side of the road because I wasn't getting to merging speed fast enough. It will also do this when I go from one lane to the next and need to go faster in the lane I'm in - I hit the pedal to do this and don't get a reaction, then suddenly it will kick in and jerk forward. I've tried to adjust my driving but it is still annoying.
I've read that about half the owners have this problem and half don't. I don't know about if it's driving or what - but I had a V6 Honda that I traded and that one certainly had no such problem!
Reply: I would say maybe 1/3 of the I4 RAV have this lag issue, but very few V6 owner have the lag issue. Are you a real conservatibe driver? Your transmission is a learning transmission, that means that the shift timing is adjusted to your driving style. So if you are a conservatibe driver, its will hold its gear longer and no0t down shift as fast as you would llike in order to save gas. The way I over come this is to discount the battery for 30 mins to erase the memory. After that, push the car once a while to offset the conservatibe driving.
Addtional Reply:I think its spread across the board G. 4 and 6 alike.. didn't we do a poll here and it semed like both engines had this issue?? I know that there is only a TSB for the 4 tho so I guess Toyota 'admits' the issue with the 4.. at this time..
