Awesome! But OMG, that awful, awful techno music **** ruined the video! I couldn't even hear your car properly!

PLEASE post burnout videos up without music in the background, we wanna hear the VH roar, not music!!!

Conversion is badass tho man, top work! Great to see a VH conversion up and running

I got almost 6 months in it, from idea to driving.

Anyways, I got a few bugs to clear up with it, then it will be ready to drive cross country, well at least across Texas to the Mineral Wells practice drifts days, lol.

Okay, here is the video with no music, I mean no crappy techno music, lol.

I cut it shorter, so that it didn't take forever to upload, enjoy.

Curvy roads in Lubbock!?!? HAHAHAHA, there aren't any here, lol.

This is Drag racing territory, lol.

I'm going to have to find some roads that aren't to far away for that.

Nah, the music just sucks. Reminds me of Techno Viking. I blame him for my dislike of techno, trance, bluegrass and all that is related.

Nice!

I'm using a stock 300ZX N/A trans, flywheel, pressure plate, and shifter. The clutch was toast so I used my spare SR clutch disc, and it seems to do very nicely.

I don't drag race so it will suffice for now.

So what did you do to the exhaust to get that sound?

On the exhaust, I was going to do the dual 3" like gs14racer, but got took on the muffler, they ordered the wrong one and won't refund all of the money, anyways, I was going to have them build it but went with my own way, I have dual 3" from the manifolds, then merge into single 3.5" at the rear seat area and to a muffler I built, (stock unit gutted and made into a single 3.5" straight through with fiberglass and steel wool packing, basically a rebuildable muffler, roots back to the dirt bike days). I plan to do a true duals but waiting on more money to come in, lol.

I wanted a quiet ride as I drive 30 miles to to Lubbock and at 3 grand it gets pretty noisy in a car without interior, lol, but when I romp on it, the sound of a indycar comes out.

Awesome.

I have officially started my version of this swap this afternoon. I bought a 91 gunmetal grey coupe a couple of weeks ago and picked up a smashed 94 Q45 today. Didn't get too much accomplished except pulling a bunch of the plastic crap out of the engine bay.

A couple of quick questions:

1) Every S13 450sx that I've seen has a hole in the hood. How'd you get the VH in there low enough to clear the hood.

2) How did you do your wiring? I'm assuming stock ECU and engine harness; what about the tach and engine light?

My goal is to use as much of the ka stuff that I can get away with so I'm using the stock transmission instead of the one from a z32. A lot of people think they're weak, but they're the same transmission as the z31 and I've seen guys push some pretty impressive power through them with KA-T setups. Also, I have seen where a dude mounts a z31 flywheel and clutch directly to the flexplate of the VH to give him room for an adapter without modifying the bellhousing. I think I'm going to look at that first before trying other options. I'd like to really document the swap and approach it from a repeatability perspective. Obviously, you have the details worked out... I hope you don't mind me bugging you for advice if I run into issues.

FS5W71C mated to a VH45DE? sorry for the thread jack, but this is what I'm trying to do.. coreans have you worked out an adapter plate design, or gotten any measurements yet?

To continue with the thread jack...

Not yet. I've got to drag the coupe back to my house at which point I'll pull the transmission and get started. My plan is to basically either have one of the engineers make a CAD model and then cut it out on a CNC here at work, or do it by hand on one of the band saws. All of the counter sunk holes can be machined out pretty easily. I know everyone wants to use the z32 transmission, but does anyone else want an adapter for the FS5W71C since I'm making one for myself anyway?

Right now I'm working on getting the VH out of the Q45.

slamdbusa was cool enough to respond to an email that I sent him asking about his swap. From everything I've seen, it seems fairly straight forward and can probably be done for relatively minimum money.

My costs so far:$600 - 91 coupe (great body with blown engine, but comes with a stock KA in pieces)$500 - 94 Q45 (can take anything I want, but the dude is keeping the shell, interior, glass, and cats. I plan on grabbing the entire drivetrain/harness/ECU, brakes, rear end, rear uprights, and front hubs).$50 - 93 300zx N/A flywheel. Wanted to go aluminum, but am having trouble finding one that won't break the budget. I may come back later and stick one in, however.

Not including rims, tires, and suspension, my goal is to complete the car for less than $2000.

i've done the math and you can swap a vh into an s chassis for less than 2k using decent parts.i'd be interested in the ka trans adaptor you are proposing, better fitment use of the stock driveshaft and its a decent trans as long as you dont powershift or run dragslicks and launch hard.

Just remember that all builds will nickel and dime you to death. Fuel line, hoses, belts, plugs, clamps, etc. It adds up to hundreds if not thousands by the time you are done.

Don't forget the fuel pump!!!

What he said!

I build cars, and do engine swaps all day, everyday. You would be surprised at the expense of the little things. Wireties alone add up when doing the harny. Radiator, like T45 said the hoses, lines, and if you dont have a welder/and abilities to cut metal, then it gets expensive quick.

lol, trust me I've done my homework like I said and im no stranger to swaps.but you're right little stuff adds up and i forget what it was like before i had a welder and proper tools.
