Ok well I finally got my new replacement ignition coils that I bought off a guy on an online auction site.My car didnt even really need the change yet but I was getting an intermitent misfire/shake so I figured why not change them now. I go to my local infiniti and get them installed yesterday. And now today the car is shaking like crazy and I think the engine is knocking also. I look on the box of the replacements and it says 22448-2y000 22448-2y005. I look inside the box today at the old coils they took out. And they end with -2y001 AND -2Y006. So I suppose I was sent the wrong coils. And have the wrong coils installed now. I dont understand why infiniti didnt confirm the part before installing them. Now I do not know what to do. My car only has 60,000 and I am sure having the wrong coils in is doing damage. Am I right?

I did a search on the part numbers. The ones you installed are for a 2000 while your old ones are for the 2001. It's the same engine, so I'm not really sure why the coils would be different.

Because you gave them the parts! I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation, but you can't try to circumvent stealership part prices and not expect to be responsible for the parts you provide. Technicians are just that - technicians - not parts counter guys.

As far as I can find, (and I searched a lot) there is no difference in the coils.

Is your car a 2000 or 2001? If it's a 2000, then someone replaced the coils on your car before, because like maxhopper said, the ones ending in 0 and 5 are the older (supposedly weaker..) coild while the new 'updated' ones end in 1 and 6.

However, if your new coils are, in fact, new you shouldn't be having problems. Have you taken it back to the infiniti dealer? Was it having problems when you left the dealer? There aren't too many things that can go wrong when replacing the coils on a DE-K (unless your dealer is retarded and removed the upper IM) so either your parts are defective, or it's just a coincidence and something else went wrong.

Having bad coils for a while will not do any permanent damage to your car, but like I mentioned before, it could be something else. I suggest checking to see if everything is attached correctly (unplugging a coil gives causes your car to run rough/stumble) and then go from there. Take it back to whoever installed it if you cant figure it out yourself

Hey Dubzino. I know this applies to the nissan coils but for the weaker coils they wont have a silver dot while the new better ones will have silver dot on each coil.

I see your from the GTA area. My wife live in downtown but her parents moved to Richmond Hill. I was at a couple of the Toronto Max meets.

My car is a 2001. My guys at the dealship were good to me. I went in and explained that I was sent the wrong coils and they put the old ones back in free of charge. She purrring like a kitten again.Thats what I get for trying to change something before it needed to be changed. Now I have a pair of brandnew Nissan made by hashin 2000 Infiniti/Maxima coils with the grey dot for sale. If anyone wants them I will let them go reasonable.

You may look at installing the new coils you get yourself. It's only one wire plug and one 10mm bolt per coil. REALLY EASY!

Yes I will definatly be doing them myself next time after seeing how simple it is. I should of checked before going to Nissan. And beleive me there is a difference in the coils. And otherwise they wouldnt of made two seperate parts for the 2000 and 2001.
