I finally got a new actuator! It was made to fit a t3 but I got it to work with a little drill action and some big *** pliers. At first I hooked the line directly to the turbo outlet and was getting about 5-6 psi like I was before. Then I moved the line over to the cold pipe side just6 prior to the BOV. Now I get about 8 psi. It does peak up to about 9 before it levels back to 8psi so I think it should be ok as far as having trouble with boost spikes. It seems to me that I must be losing about 2psi across the I/C. Is that normal? I'm running a Starion I/C btw. It would explain why I was only getting 5psi with a 7 psi wastegate. Can I leave it set up this way to "compensate" for the loss?

Another issue that comes as a result of the higher boost is that my SAFC was tuned at 5psi. I didn't have any trouble with it tonight, prolly cause it's nice and cool out and I didn't drive it enough to let the I/C get heatsoaked or anything. Just wondering if it really will be necessary to have it dynoed again.

Plumbing restrictions or IC restriction will give you a boost drop. I run my wastegate from the intake as well. The turbo might be pushing 10 psi to get 8 at the intake, but who really cares what the turbo is sitting at. It's all whats being injested that matters. Just make sure your gauge is hooked up to the intake as well.

Unless I'm reading it wrong it sounds like your actually gaining pressure across the intercooler. I guess that would mean that it's cooling the charge enough to actually make it a good bit denser...weird.

he said it went from 7 psi to 5 psi.Anyway its common knowledge that the end tanks and inlet/outlet on the starion intercoolers leave a bit to be desired in terms of airflow. The cores are pretty good for a junkyard special but they do pose a restriction once you start flowin a lot of boost through them. at only 7 psi though I am surprised by a 2 psi drop. Its not unheard of but that is pretty high for a starion frount mount.

I'm still reading it as going from 5-6 right after the turbo but before the intercooler to 8-9 right after.

Perhaps he meant to say it the other way around, which sounds a whole lot more accurate and believable :)

I don't think he said it backwards. He just didn't specify which line he moved. I think he moved the signal line for the actuator from the hot pipe to the cold pipe, but kept the signal to the gauge in the intake manifold (so it still reads vacuum). As such, now the wastegate is opening later to compensate for the pressure drop across the intercooler.

In other words, the wastegate wants to open at 7psi. Before, with the signal line on the turbo outlet, the actuator opened at 7psi, there was 2psi pressure drop across piping, intercooler, and throttle body and so the gauge read 5psi. Now, the signal for the wastegate is after that...so the turbo puts out ~9psi, there is a ~2psi drop through all that stuff, and now the gauge reads 7psi (as does the actuator).

You got it exactly d240. I really like the extra couple of psi. I've already pulled on a mustang GT and destroyed a couple of fart can sporting civics. :) Before I put on the turbo, those things (civics) used to take me by a little, but now....Heh Heh, I get 10 or 12 car lengths on them before I even get into 4th. Turbos ****ing rule!

That's why I get paid the big bucks.
