Any ideas - my 1997 Infiniti I-30 has about 135k miles. Lately when I press the release button to shift out of part, the button itself sticks and will not depress. This seems to happen when the engine or outside temp is cold. The button eventually gives but I am worried about when it won't. The dealer tried, but said I need to bring it back when it is having the problem (of course I can't drive it to the dealer when it is having the problem). Can anyone tell me what to do? Thanks, Nan

Do you hear a click under the shifter when in park and you hit the brake pedal? If you hear a click only when the shifter works, I'd guess bad solenoid.

Hey everyone, 92Q owner here with small problem getting my Q to stay on. The AC idler pulley was contaminated and was not free to spin causing restrictions throughout all the belts coming from the crank shaft. As an experiment, I removed that idler pulley and belt and drove it like that for a day. My car started up clean with no problem with obviously less restriction (for those looking for a little more power sacrificing but their AC.) I replaced the idler pully and it had no problem but went back to starting and cutting off. I would have to hold down gas and some smoke (black, carbon build up?) woudl shoot out and then the car would be able to idle on its own. The car has about 147,000miles on it, last injector cleaning at about 80-90K miles. Would you think this would be the main problem or could it be a potential failing injector(s), or possibly failing fuel pump. (Fuel filter has been changed recently). One more thing, where can I find a repair manual for the 92 Q without being raped on cost?

Aha - no click. Would a bad solenoid be a come and go problem like this? And does the dealer (Nissan) need to fix this or can a general mechanic do it? Thanks, Nan

I saw something similiar in a 1996 where the button would not engage and it also physically shifted roughly between gears (P to N to D to etc). He methodically took apart the entire unit and used something to lubricate it (I don't remember what-but I can ask) and he changed what I believe is called the shift pin or clamp. he's had no problems ever since.
