No doubt. I kind of expected at LEAST an aux input. Hell even the dirt cheap economny cars have aux inputs...

I think I might be returning this thing. The audio from the iPod sounds horrible. Very staticy or fuzzy sounding at times.

Edited the main post with a link to a now YouTube video instead of having it be downloaded to your PC(s).

Found it!!! http://www.installer.com/item/display_i ... it=PA15INF

Lets me have an iPod interface with a 3.5mm jack via RCA AUX and keep my factory xm radio. Looks like a fairly easy install. Now my M will be complete sans traffic for nav.

Thanks for the great GROM write up. It got me looking for other possibilities.

Hmm I might have to give that USASpec module a try. I wish the GROM had better audio quality. I feel like I'm listening to today's current music on a 1950's radio. Both the iPod and 3.5mm quality are very poor.

After reading up on this and a lengthy thread on G35driver it appears that the PA15INF and the PA15NIS are identical in operation, the difference being that the INF installs in the trunk with the sat. module whereas the NIS installs behind the radio in the dash. I think the NIS is the way to go as there is less wire to route to your iPod or AUX.

I just installed the GROM USB/iPod and while the sound does go to center point/surround sound, the sound quality is very poor. I get a crackling sound not clear at all. I get better sound using the RCA cable via the aux provided by the car, and yes it does not do the surround sound via RCA. Also, i cant control the ipod via any of the buttons, can forward song etc. The Ipod connected does show on the screen. So far i have not gotten much help from GROM, only links to their PDF files. I will give them a little more time if they have no suggestions i am returning the unit and would not recommend this unit.

You might want to do the following as all of your controls should work, etc. You might have an old firmware (which didn't support the steering wheel controls, etc.)

I did the software update and the sound still sounds horrible. Sounds like an old vinyl record. I've resorted to burning MP3 cds until I can afford to do a full system swap and run my iPod through a Bit One.

Make sure your connections are tight/not moving around behind the radio. I know it's a pain to go back there again, but some of these Grom units have really flimsy connectors. I ziptied mine to the box in such a way where they wouldn't move around and then I 3M double taped the box to one of the modules at the bottom of the radio area.

Regarding the install guide.... #3 says to remove the cup holder trim. Before I start (and screw everything up) is there any special way to do this. Do I pry it off or use a special tool? Thanks

His center console was open, or we would have kept pulling harder until it broke.

Awesome. Thanks. I used this write-up to help me put in my PA15-NIS.

One thing that I would add for anyone using this write-up to access their radio (for whatever reason) is that you MUST put the car in N (or D?) to get the shifter trim off.

Now that I look at your pics I can see you had it in N but I didn't see it in the instructions and finally found it in another thread after screwing around with that piece for 30 minutes.

Thanks again for doing this.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone considered trying to get a newer model M stereo to fit in their 06-07? I just started looking into trying to add A2DP to my M and haven't seen anything about this option.

Has anyone changed out their stereo in a 2010 or newer that would be willing to ship me their stock stereo so I can try it in my '07? If it works I would pay you for the stereo. If not, I'll ship it back and cover shipping in both directions.
