I do the reset twice a year (time change, smoke detector batteries & Infiniti pedal dance), or if I feel it needs it, and have not noticed any difference in manual shifting mode, which is always prompt and smooth (except for 3 to 4, which has a rough edge).
Since realizing how the whole thing works (ish), I have played around with it a bit and found that if you very judiciously use a mode (Sport only when flogging it) the car maintains responsiveness for many months - but who the hell wants to go without the sweet rev matching of Sport mode? I noticed this the first time (before I knew how to do the reset) when Snow mode was BY FAR the best/quickest/"maybe my transmission isn't broken after all!" mode when both Std and Sport were clearly in granny mode. I think the previous owner spent a lot of time at low rpm's, and I doubt the ECU had ever been reset - the car was completely changed the first time I did the dance.
