I had to replace mine on my KA-T not too long ago, actually just put new gasket-maker down on it. Its not exactly fun to do.
1. drain the coolant, you can either take off the lower radiator hose, or remove the drain plug in the radiator on the drivers side.
2. Remove all the belts at the tensioner mechanisms.
3. I took my water pump off with my clutch fan on, but its the 3rd time ive done this so I would reccomend you take the clutch fan off, which is explained the the FAQ's, its very easy
4. Now is when you take the bolts off around the outside of the water pump housing. I used a ratcheting box wrench in combination with a 6pack and stubby non-ratcheting box wrench, a Crow's foot might work well also.
5. Put down gasket sealer on in the groove where the housing touches the head, and make it a solid bead, also be sure to go on the INSIDE of the bolt holes.
6. Easy part now, put it all back together.
I would reccomend you let it setup for 3-5 hours, which is what i never did because I was usually doing it in the pits at the dragstrip. The last time i did it I actually let it setup and it has lasted longer than any other time.
Hope this helps.
Rick
