I need to replace the steering knuckle (don't ask...REALLY bad day) but I'm having trouble removing the ABS sensor. I removed the bolt but it's not budging.

Any ideas? This is a 4WD 2001 QX4

It's called buy new sensors. Sorry I really do not think you are going to get them out in one piece after 13 years. The steel is corroded around them and they are seized in place. Even if you can get a punch down in the inside of the hub and are able hammer them out you will ruin them.

I had to buy new ones when I changed the front hub assemblies on the wife's FX35. They are easy to get out, just buy the new ones before starting your projects. The dash light will stay on until you reach about 25-30mph and then the system will reset itself.

I just went through the same ordeal. I asked here and other forums but there was no response.

In my case, there was NO WAY the sensor was coming out in one piece. I spent HOURS trying to get it out with no luck. Finally I joust took a pair of vise grips and broke it off. I then tapped out the piece that was left in the hub, which was not easy. After all these years, the sensor had basically welded itself to the hub.

Hopefully you have better luck, new sensors are around $100 from Rockauto.

Yeah I hit it with PB Blaster over the course of a few days and didn't have any luck :frown: It ended up being another expense in an expensive weekend.

Thanks for confirming :bigthumb:

Got it out on my 98 pathfinder with lots of patience, PB blaster, chisels, and improv. Did it without damaging. NOT EASY. More patience that I normally have.

So what is the thread size of the retaining bolt for the passenger side wheel speed sensor?

The bolt holding in the wheel speed sensor was seized (1999 QX4) and broke off during removal. Then when I attempted removal of the wheel speed sensor, it was stuck. Had to order a new sensor, but I had no way to get out the remains of the stuck bolt.

I used penetrate, heat, and then welded a nut to the remains. Nothing worked.

So I drilled it out and now I'm left with pieces of the old bolt still stuck in the threads. I want to use a tap to clean the hole out, but I want to make sure I use the right tap for this.

Any ideas?

Old, also if anyone knows the thread size of the Phillips head screws (and length) that hold in the dust shield I need that too. Had to chisel those four screws off to remove the dust shield so I could get to the wheel speed sensor bolt hole better.

The sensor retainers are 6-1.0 on pretty much everything Nissan. Dunno about the shield screws.

I did find the part number: 08120-8162E

https://conceptzperformance.com/nissan- ... _13817.php

But I can't find any info on thread size or bolt length.

Okay, I'll try that size on the hole first. Thank you!

Well, that 6-1.0 isn't right.

It appears to be an 8.

Still can't figure the thread pitch though. Anyone got any ideas?

Nissan uses both 8-1.0 and 8-1.25, but for something like that they'd probably use coarse (1.25). The retainer screw has very little strain on it, all it does is secure the sensor, so if you need to use a different thread and fastener than the original it shouldn't be a big deal. The drill hole for a coarse is always smaller than the hole for a fine, so if there isn't enough metal left to restore the 1.25, you should be able to promote it to 1.0 without causing any problems.

Heck, as bad these things rust in place I could probably get away with a bolt half that size!

Thank you for the info, I appreciate it !

So I went to the Infiniti Dealer today. They no longer stock the two bolts, can't even order them. Bolts. Who would have thought that bolts would go out of production. Makes no sense to me

Probably because they're 8's and it's a size they don't use anymore. Like I said, just about everything these days uses 6-1.0. I'd just measure the hole depth and hit the hardware store for something slightly shorter. It isn't like it's a high-strength application, anything that fits in the hole should work fine..

Yep, that's what I'm going to do today. Going to Fastenal to get the bolts.

By the way, if anyone needs the info on the wheel speed sensor bolts the dimensions are:

M8 x 1.25 x 20MM

Oh, and the dust shield retaining bolts are M6 x 1.0 x 15MM
