Note: This is not going to be as good as a 200 dollar+ intake but it's worth it if you have some time and don't want to spend a lot of money.

Tools needed:

- Phillips screw driver.- Flat head screw driver.- A dremel or something to cut with.- Patience.- 3" Cone filter.

I will add more pics tomorrow, don't have the cable for my BlackBerry with me right now...

Step 1: Take the stock air box out, it takes like 5 - 10 mins.Step 2: Carefully remove the MAF sensor.Step 3: Take the piping off the rubber intake.Step 4: Take the rest of the air box out.Step 5: Cut cut cut so the only part left is the MAF sensor tube.Step 6: Smooth out the edges and put on your 25 dollar air filter.Step 7: Put back on the car and figure out how you're going to mount a bracket to keep it from drooping down. (Haven't done this yet).

Final product: (Better pics tomorrow)

The bracket isn't OEM but it works and it's solid and no drilling into the car required. Used the factory holes and bolts for the stock air box. A little black paint = win.

Done.

Sounds pretty good and you can certainly feel a bit of difference in pick up. Thumbs up.

This is in no way to say hey, this is better than a few WAI, cause it's not, it's just a cheap alternative.

That's a nice hack. Looks like your intake will have less heat soak than the aftermarket ones since you retained the rubber joint between the throttle body and the stock airbox. Downside is that the the thing might shake itself apart/crack under heavy driving. (The aftermarket tubes are metal for a reason.)

If you can get the reliability up by doing a good mounting job, you may have the best-performing 4th gen short-ram intake on NICO!

Love it.

Bracket work tomorrow. We have some zip ties holding it up but it's working for now. Haha. I have no idea how we're going to do the bracket but I will post pics for sure.

I was installing a WAI in my Sentra last year, and accidently started up the car not realizing I had the MAF removed from the air pathway.... the car started up then sputtered and turned off, and threw some MAF error code, obviously.

I plugged it back in and cleared the code, and it worked normally. So if I'm to assume the Altima ECU is similar in behavior, then no if the filter itself falls out, it will not know anything's wrong, until something hits and destroys the MAF sensor, OR the maf adapter and whole section fall off and air no longer runs through it, in which case the engine will or should turn off. Lots of fun if it happens on the highway when you're merging I imagine.

lol- wen i put my intake on- i started the car right up w/o an intake on. lol- it sounds loud as hell and mad insanely beastly

u can run your car w/o a filter- theres just nothing there to protect things from flyin into ur engine. in the good ol' days ppl ran on tracks w/o a filter at all so they could have perfect air suction

if u dnt beleive me- im sure u could google it

My thoughts exactly. lol

No bracket work yet. Although I have bought the bracket materials today. It was raining all day so probably have it done by the weekend.

At wide open throttle, agree completely. From an extended idle, I bet you'll notice a difference in throttle up speed/power...

Yeah it certainly noticeable for sure. I drove by a few people today and floored it. Got some looks lol. Kinda want to put the 16" oem rims on to see how it is with the less weight... haha

oh, also at autozone I noticed they had a sort of universal MAF coupling that looked like it was a close match to ours. just an idea.
