Howdy. I just bought a little 1990 Hardbody pickup that is sitting on the ground because the previous owner wanted a mini truck. Well I don't. I just want a compact truck.

So I need to get it back to stock height. It's got a shackle lowering kit on the rear. Is it just a matter of removing the shackles and the rear will come back up? Or are there some stock parts that I no longer have and will have to source?

Also, I can't see evidence of any aftermarket parts in the front. Doesn't look like there are drop spindles on it, but I'm not sure. Is there a way to make these things sink low without addt'l hardware? I thought I read somewhere about turning the torsion bars, but I'm not sure.

Any advice you folks have would be great. I'm taking it to the base hobby shop tomorrow to change out the clutch and would like to put it back to stock height while I'm at it.

One more really dumb question. Manual transmission fluid. The Haynes manual says GL-4 and refer to the transaxle chart for which specific fluid to use. Looks like an oil chart to me so I think I throw some 10W40 in there and I'm good. Is this true? I'd hate to put in a couple quarts of 10W40 only to find out I was supposed to use 80W90.

Thanks!

Oh, here's my intro thread with pics of "Piggy".

Unless there's something substantially different about the 90 vs. 97, the transmission uses either 75W-90 or 80W-90 (either one should work).

Throw some Redline MTL in there because these transmission's have terrible synchros that people like to assume as a bad transmission. Redline MTL will fix any synchro probs and prevent any future problems. peace.

Thanks. If they have any at Vatozone when I buy the 80W90, I'll pick some up. Time to go raise the truck back up, replace the shocks and change out the clutch!

De-lowering is done! I didn't change out the clutch because I ran out of time, but I'm a happy HB driver with a stock height truck!

Now to go find out the stock tire size and find some good used rubber to throw on there since my speedo is way off due to the smaller tires on it.
