If you checked your oil when your G was new, before the first oil change, how high did it register on the dipstick? The reason I ask is mine is just above the low marker after it has sat for a couple hours. Seems like last time I checked it was right in the middle, but that might have been just after running it for a while. I'm wondering if I should top it off. What weight/viscosity oil do they use at the factory?

5w-30 is what i use in my 2010 g37s coupe. its also what the manual stated to use. if im not mistaken, 5w-30 is what most if not all nissan engines call for.

oil does slightly change viscosity when hot, cold, etc. plus you might be in a different incline (driveway versus street) and that can be the reason its reading slightly lower or higher.) i wouldn't stress it to much, the difference - but i would keep an eye on oil consumption.

5w-30 is what I use. My engine has used oil since new. Usually about a quart every 1500 miles. The L mark on my dipstick is 2 quarts low. I never let my oil level get that low. I add a quart when 1/2 way to the L mark and change my oil every 3k to 3.5k miles when it needs another quart.
Still runs like new.

It turns out the incline I was parked on was making it register low. I took it to the auto parts store and picked up a quart of oil, but checked it after 10 minutes and it was above halfway between the low and high marks. I decided I'll just keep checking it to see if it's consuming any oil, but it doesn't look too out of the ordinary for the time being.
