Good morning - I have a S14 JDM SR20DE engine that I am trying to get sorted out. It runs but idle is erratic and it surges.

I was hoping to get some coaching on how to get an ECU reader connected to this, I believe I need a specific connector to bridge the Japanese market PIN to what is commonly available here in the US.

Is this the right approach?

You can check codes at the ECU using a screwdriver and the FSM. There will be a light that flashes. That will tell you what code it has stored.
