There is a button inside the door opener that you need to push when you do it should blink, once it does you should have about 30 seconds to push the button on your mirror that you want to use for that door. If I remember correctly you need to hold that button down for several seconds when you do it right you will get a blink pattern that confirms the signal. The next time you push the button it should work the door.

If you look at the manual packet for your car there is a card that shows the proper instructions.

My garage door opener is about 10 years old so I had to push the button on the unit on the ceiling to reset the remote and then park close to the garage, hole down the homelink button and your remote button at the same time until the homelink blinks red quickly.

NOTE - Hold down the first and third homelink buttons simultaneous until it blinks fast to clear out any previous remotes or devices.
