I finished my new header install last night (thanks to all who have posted suggestions on this, couldnt have done it without you! ) but after starting it up, there is an air leak where it connects to the cat. At first I could feel the air but as it warmed up that became less, but the sound is still awful. Stomp the gas and it sounds like a tire going flat.

I've searched and found others have had trouble with the piping being a little too short, and they were going to try adding a second gasket, but I havent read if anyone had luck with that.

Should I go with another gasket or try gasket sealer?

Any help is appreciated.

use another gasket, and apply a small bead of sealer between the 2 gaskets.

Thanks Aries,I tried double gaskets with some sealer between them and that seems to have done the trick. I may have messed up the original seal by tightening it before I tightened the bolts at the head. I think it might have tweaked it a bit. Also, a tip to others doing this install in the future: you can get the original header out without pulling the steering assembly, but be sure to remove the heat shields AND break off the little tabs that they were mounted to. I broke off three or four of them and was then able to jiggle it through by myself (though it would have been easier with someone guiding from below also).

I dont have a Hotshot header, but this might help elimenate using 2 gaskets:

Install the header on the cylinder head and loosely bolt it to the cat. Then loosen all of the exhaust bolts from the cat back (hangar bolts and pipe to pipe bolts). This way, the exhaust will be able to move slightly. Tighten the cat to header bolts, then tighten the rest of the bolts. Seems like it should work.

I have done it this way, and yes it does work :)
