Hot Console

After driving for approximately 4 hours without stopping I noticed that some items I had in the extra cup holder in the front of the console on my 99 1/2 QX4 were extremely warm, almost too hot to hold. Is this normal?

was there possibly sun light shining through the windsheild while you were driving on that specific spot? otherwise i would say no that is not normal since it is plastic. getting that hot could melt the plastic.

It's normal. Transfer case and couple of other drive train parts are under that are and get pretty warm from long driving. I drove to nyc about four hours with traffic, and my soda got pretty hot sitting in the cup holders. All cars do that after a long period of driving if your cup holders are on the center consoles. My acura had the same problem.
