I own both the haynes and chilton manuals, and neither of them have a diagram or picture to show the location of the horns.

The horns don't work, and i didn't immediately see anything resembling horns or wiring leading to where the manuals said they'd be, so i didn't want to waste a ton of time looking for them if they've been removed. Should they be in plain sight, or does something need to be moved to get to them?

If the horns and wiring have (as i suspect) been removed, my next goal will be to test circuit for functionality at the relay, but i haven't got any idea where it is. Is it one of the relays at the fuse block, or is it buried in the dash somewhere?

Sorry for the elementary post, but these service manuals really leave a lot to the imagination.

The horns are pretty easily, seen, they're tucked behind the front bumper behind the marker lights set into the bumper on both sides. The relay is a real SOB to get to, the best description I can give is it's right above the steering column under the dash next to a larger relayish box that's the "intermittent wiper amplifier" accessible from the right hand side.

Here are some after-midnight dark blurry flashlight guide pics.

Whoa, i didn't actually expect anyone to take pics. Thanks a lot!

And.... wow. They really went out of their way to bury this stuff. It looks like i'm going to need about 3 extra arms to test that relay.

Made a little bit of progress, and now i know why so many people just leave these horns broken.

First of all, i have only a passenger side horn, and it's completely shorted out. I jumped it to the battery, and it didn't make so much a honk as a series of scary pops and fizzles which left my 16ga jumper cable hot to the touch. Yikes.

Once the horn was disconnected, i can now manually short and trigger the relay, but the horn button (center plate on the wheel) is VERY finicky. It didn't work at all at first, and now after loosening and adjusting it i can finally get it to trigger maybe 20% of the time. It seems that it has to be pressed JUST so for it to work and make contact with the little spring.

Anyways, i wouldn't have made even the small amount of progress i did without the pictures, so thanks again!

When it started giving trouble I just installed new ones. The hardest thing was to find the wire from the button on the steering wheel.

My horn project got put on hold after i popped a head gasket.

I'll get back to it probably next weekend, and i'll let you know what i end up doing.

I have similar hella horns that i bought for an old project that i'll likely end up using, as well.

I'd ideally like to mount them in a location similar to where the factory horns were, but i don't know how realistic that is.

I got a air horn set from Oreilly's auto. Shoe horned the horns in front of the battery and used the stock horn mounting spot to mount the motor. It sounds awsome!

Can get some pics up when I get back in town. The air horns are between the battery and the headlights. The side that has the hoses is on the inside and the open side is facing the fender. I do have a smaller group sized battery than the normal group size 24.
